  • Profile:
     モデルベース制御を主軸にマイコンに関わる産業応用技術,さらに制御系のサイバーセキュリティ技術の開発を行ってきている.研究の柱は,適応・ロバスト・ハイブリッドなどの制御工学と,整数・半正定値計画などの数値最適化である.
     2009年までの主な研究テーマは拘束システムに対する制御系解析・設計に関する研究である.2009年からは,理論研究の1つとして,数値最適化に基づく量子化制御に従事している.具体的には,ネットワーク化制御,組み込みシステム,ON/OFF型アクチュエータの制御のための基礎理論を研究している.また,応用研究としては,自動車,情報家電,ファクトリーオートメーションの制御に関わる基盤技術開発に関わっている.自動車分野では,変速機の制振制御,EV・HEVのバッテリー性能評価方法,自動車モデルのモデル検証方法の研究を行っている.情報家電分野では,エアコンのモデルベース制御による省エネ化,家電連携システムの研究を行っている.ファクトリーオートメーション分野では,工場内の自律無人搬送台車のモデル化と高精度位置決め制御,搬送計画指令の最適化に関わる研究に従事している.
     2012年からのメインテーマは,携帯電話などの身近な製品から水道などの重要インフラの制御システムのセキュリティ技術開発である.これまで量子化制御や適応制御による侵入検知で培ってきた技術を用いて,サイバー攻撃のモデルベース検知・防御アルゴリズムの開発を目指す.

One of the vehicle estimation methods is receding-horizon estimation (RHE), which uses a past series of the measured state and input of the plant, and determines the estimated states based on linear or quadratic programming. It is known that RHE can estimate the vehicular state to which the extended Kalman filter cannot be applied owing to modeling errors. This study proposes a new computational form of the RHE based on primal-dual dynamics. The proposed form is expressed by a dynamic system; therefore, we can consider the computational stability based on the dynamic system theory. In this study, we propose a continuous-time representation of the RHE algorithm and redundant filters to improve the convergence performance of the estimation and demonstrate its effectiveness through a vehicle path-following control problem.

In order to maintain the ride quality and quietness of dry clutches, research on judder analysis and mechanical design to suppress judder is actively pursued. This paper describes the design and implementation of robust control techniques as an approach to suppressing judder during gear shifting in traction-controlled transmissions. This paper is concerned with transmissions that exhibit strongly nonlinear frictional characteristics that can only be approximated by higher order polynomials. Specifically, the coefficient of friction varies significantly nonlinearly with the rotational speed during gear shifting. In this paper, the controller is designed by expressing this nonlinear property as the uncertainty of the frequency. Simulation and bench test results are presented to validate the validity of such an approach. The results show that judder-free shifting is possible with the proposed approach. Furthermore, the requirements of three controllers are presented by analyzing the robust controllers.

  • Analysis and stabilizing design of self-excited oscillation in a loading cam using a wedge effec

    This paper describes a design method of a friction reducer device using a loading cam to suppress unstable vibration. Nonlinear simulation and energy analysis of numerical solutions demonstrates that destabilization is caused by the large phase difference between the slipping velocity in the translation direction and that in the rotation direction. It was found that similarly unstable vibration occurs in various structures using wedge rollers with translational and rotational motion. The analytical equation could be simplified by focusing on the motion factor that affects the slip velocity of the power transmission surface, which is the factor of vibration. Consequently, the design method for suppressing vibration could be expressed by a mathematical formula. This equation is validated by using the results of experiments conducted in the previous work of the current authors. Furthermore, from this equation, we proposed that vibration could be suppressed by the parameter balance of the power transmission device without using damping. The power transmission surface slips when a quick torque is input and damping is used. The proposed design can handle a quick torque response and reduce the weight of the reducer. Specifically, the shape of the wedge roller is made lighter, so that the moment of inertia of the roller is not lowered, or the wedge roller is set as a small roller.

The fallback control system implements maintaining functionality after an incident. Since cyber-attacks tamper with the communication contents of the networked control systems, the fallback control system is installed in a control target side. The fallback control system detects the incident without the communication contents on field network. This system detects an incident based on a bilinear observer and a switched Lyapunov function. When an incident is detected, normal operation is switched to fallback operation automatically. In this paper, a practical experiment with Ball-Sorter simulating a simple defective discriminator as a part of Factory Automation systems is shown. Assumed cyber-attacks against Ball-Sorter are Man In The Middle attack and Denial of Service attack.

    This paper describes self-excited oscillation caused by coulomb friction of electromagnetic proportional valve. Especially, this research focuses on a hydraulic system in which electromagnetic proportional and pressure proportional valves are located tandem. In the system, the coulomb frictional force effects on the displacement direction of the spool of the former valve and the piston is established in the downstream region of the latter valve. Each valve is stable, but, the connection of them causes instability. This paper analyzes the mechanism of this unstable vibration and then investigates an anti-vibration design method. In analysis, this paper clarifies that the vibration is caused by an elastic deformation delay of the oil in the piston. This delay increases the phase delay of the spool due to the coulomb frictional force. After replacing the coulomb frictional force with hysteresis, the proposed method uses the describing function method to express phase delay phenomenon due to the coulomb frictional force. The describing function is the complex function which expresses an amplitude ratio and phase difference with the input and output of nonlinear element. The delay of a vibration factor is linearized by converting coulomb friction into hysteresis. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated via practical experiment and non-linear simulation results.

The FCS is disposed on not networked controllers but controlled objects. After some incidents happen, the FCS isolates the controlled objects from networked controllers and controls the objects safely and locally. This ICS operation switching is one-way from normal one to fallback one and the recovery switching from the fallback one to the normal one still remains open. This is because there is a possibility of cyber-attacks aiming the reconnection of the controlled objects with the network controllers. Motivated by this, this paper proposes a Fallback and Recovery Control System (FRCS) by adding a safety recovery switching to the FCS. Maintaining the fallback control of the controlled object, the virtual operation mode of FRCS connects the networked controller with the virtual controlled object (Plant Simulator). The FRCS evaluates the ICS soundness from the responses between the controller and the virtual object and then reconnects the controller with the actual one. The ICS soundness evaluation is based on the discrete-event system observer. This paper verifies the validity of the proposed recovery switching via a practical experiment.

    2017 SICE INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON CONTROL SYSTEMS (SICE ISCS), IEEE, 67-74, 2017, Peer-reviwed, This paper obtains a theoretical value of the maximum transportation throughput of Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) System in a logistics center. To know the maximum transportation throughput is important to design the system since we need to know the feasibility of the design. It is proposed that the method which the problem to obtain the maximum transportation throughput is reduced to a linear programming problem with in this paper. This method must enable to obtain the theoretical values of large systems in shorter period of time than previous methods. We modeled that a rail have a traffic capacity, and AGVs consume the traffic capacity when they run or wait for loading or unloading. Then these relationship is used as constraints of a linear programming problem whose objective is to maximize the transportation throughput.

  • Model-based Cybersecurity for Control Systems: Modeling, Design and Control

It is insufficient to apply existing information security countermeasures to control systems and then we need security concept specific to control systems because there exists gaps between information and control system security policies. Also, the existing studies tend to focus on the preliminary countermeasures of cyberattacks, but it is necessary to consider incident responses of control systems during the cyberattacks in terms of control system security stategy "Defence-in-depth". Motivated by this, paper focuses on model-based techniques which are familiar with control systems. Further, we present a fallback control method as an incident response of control systems which is a minimal operation devoting control systems to facilities protection and minimizes the damage caused by cyberattack.

The dynamic quantizers include a filter and a static quantizer. When it is required to control under a communication rate constraint, the data rate of the quantizer output should be minimized appropriately by quantization. This technical note provides numerical methods for the complete design of a type of dynamic quantizers, including the selection of all the quantizer parameters in order tominimize a specific performance index and satisfy a communication constraint. The design method of the dynamic quantizer is proposed using a particle swarm optimization (PSO) method. A part of the initial quantizers in PSO are designed based on an invariant set analysis and an iteration algorithm. Effectiveness of the system with the proposed quantizer is assessed through numerical examples.

Our controller focuses on high accuracy control performance for embedded devices with low-resolution AD/DA converters and networked systems with band-limited channels. The synthesis problem we address is the simultaneous synthesis of the nominal controller and the delta-sigma modulator (where the modulators are called the dynamic quantizers). For certain systems, we provide closed form and numerical solutions for the synthesis problem based on the invariant set analysis and the LMI technique. First, this paper proposes a synthesis condition that is recast as a set of matrix inequality conditions. The condition reduces to a tractable numerical optimization problem. Second, a closed form solution of optimal controller for the quantized feedback system is clarified within the invariant set framework. Third, we discuss the controller synthesis conditions which are characterized by the transmission zero property. Finally, to verify the validity of our method, numerical examples are presented and then the contributions related to the existing dynamic quantizer synthesis are clarified.

Especially, we focus on a hydraulic system in which electromagnetic proportion and pressure proportion valves are located tandemly. In the system, the coulomb frictional force effects on the displacement direction of the spool of the former valve and the piston is established in the downstream region of the latter valve. Each valve is stable, but, the connection of them causes instability. In this study, we analyze the mechanism of this unstable vibration and then investigate an anti-vibration design method. In analysis, this paper clarifies that the vibration is caused by an elastic deformation delay of the oil in the piston. This delay increases the phase delay of the spool due to the coulomb frictional force. In the design method, we use the describing function method to express phase delay phenomenon due to the coulomb frictional force. The effectiveness of this design method is demonstrated via practical experiment and non-linear simulation results.

The encrypted controller is able to conceal not only the signals over communication links in the control systems but also the controller parameters. Experimental validation confirms that the signals and parameters inside the controller are concealed and that the processing related to the encrypted controller is done in realtime.

Two kinds of discrete-time state space models of the routing problem are proposed in this paper that simplifies the constraints and binary variables. First, a Petri Net (PN) method is used to simplify the constraints. Second, a Deterministic Finite (DF) Automaton method is used for reducing the binary inputs of the state space equation in OHT systems. Finally, some numerical examples are shown to verify the validity of the proposed methods.

The paper starts with invariant set analysis for discrete-time polynomial nonlinear systems with bounded disturbances. Since the quantization error is also bounded, analysis of feedback systems including the dynamic quantizers can be reduced to invariant set analysis. Some sufficient conditions for analysis are obtained that can be solved by numerical optimization. Examples illustrate upper bounds of a cost function based on the proposed analysis method.

  • A Fallback Control Study of Networked Control Systems for Cybersecurity

This paper considers a cybersecurity technology of networked control systems in terms of availability. Architecture of fallback control is proposed, which consists of the remote controller and the local controller. The former achieves the high control performance and the latter guarantees the minimum required control performance. If the malicious behavior of the remote controller is detected by the local controller, the local controller breaks the network communication between the plant and the remote controller and takes over the plant control. This framework aims to prevent the spread of the damage caused by the infection of the computer malwares. As a first step of the research, a prototype fallback control system is applied to a simple automation system simulating the defective discriminator.

Our method proposed in this study uses the homomorphism of the RSA cryptosystem to determine control signals directly from encrypted feedback signals and control parameters without performing any decryption processes. A numerical simulation confirms that the proposed method contributes to the improvement of security.

Intensive use of renewable energy by emerging economies is inevitable to solve the problem of global warming. In this paper, we propose a grid comprising distributed small solar energy systems without electric wires, called a "virtual grid," where lithium-ion batteries, solar panels, and appliances are wirelessly networked and the batteries are shared between users to improve the efficiency of battery usage. The states of health (SOH) of batteries are monitored and the batteries are used beyond the SOH deterioration limit defined by the makers as far as the batteries are evaluated as safe, which results in extension of the battery lifetime to more than twice. The virtual grid is projected to reach grid parity for emerging economies around 2030, assuming continued cost reduction of lithium-ion, or other high-energy-density batteries.

In this paper, fallback is an incident response of the control system in which facilities are preferentially protected and a minimal system operates during MITM. Since the communication contents of the networked control systems can be tampered with by MITM, the proposed system named a "fallback system" is installed in a control target side, and the fallback system detects MITM without the communication contents. This system detects MITM based on the bilinear observer and switched Lyapunov function. When MITM is detected, normal operation is switched to fallback operation automatically. As a first step of this study, a selector and a fallback unit of the fallback system are developed. A practical experiment simulating a simple defective discriminator is shown.

Although this expression is appropriate to the realities of physical and engineering problems in terms of the system identification and the control system design, to our knowledge, little is known about the StSS identification methods except the MOESP based method. So, we propose a StSS adaptive observer method, which is based on Kreisselmeier adaptive observer.

This paper utilizes a model predictive control (MPC) strategy in which the cycle of measurement, prediction, optimization and control is repeated. The first aim of the MPC application is to set a small prediction horizon for the scheduling optimization, which leads to reduce computational complexity. The second aim is to address the dynamic situation such that transport requests are given in real time. This paper introduces a switching type multi-objective cost function and considers how the MPC based method adds new request tasks to the scheduling problem in real-time for the dynamic situation. To verify the validity of the proposed method, some numerical examples are shown.

  • Energy balance based verification for hybrid vehicle models

Hybrid engines are environmental friendly, but hybrid heavy-duty trucks have not been still sold in the Japanese market, as their development has posed considerable problems. To solve these problems, the automobile industry has begun to develop simulation models of actual vehicles. Nevertheless, at the moment, the simulators are still unreliable and the developers cannot obtain accurate results. Compared to automobiles with combustion engines, the recent hybridization complicates the verification of the simulation results, because a hybrid vehicle is a complex system composed of mechanical systems, electric systems, control units and so on. Motivated by this, this paper shows a new verification method which focuses on the energy balance between the various components. Since the energy conservation law holds for both the mechanical systems and the electric systems, our proposed method allows us to verify complex models like hybrid vehicles. In this paper, a mathematical model for a hybrid heavy-duty truck is developed and the approach based on energy balance is verified.

It is well known that feedback-type dynamic quantizers are effective for the quantization of data series in the sense of noise shaping. The dynamic quantizers include a set of a dynamic filter and a static quantizer. When it is required to use the quantizer in network communication, the data size of the signal should be minimized appropriately by the quantizers. We have proposed a design method for dynamic quantizers in a SISO system based on the communication rate constraint. In this paper, the design method is extended to MIMO systems. Using this extension, the communication rate constraint for one type of concentrated system can be handled. In the setting of the quantizer for a MIMO system, bit assignment is an important matter for the appropriate design of information flow. The effectiveness of the proposed design method is shown using numerical examples. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Since the dynamics of AGV depends on the loading weight of semiconductor wafer, it is necessary to consider control synthesis which focuses on the change of the loading weight for high-accuracy positioning. In addition to this, the big overshoot and the saturating servo motor current of AGV should be avoided. Motivated by above, first, this paper provides the modeling of AGV. Second, this paper describes robust deadbeat control designs. We discuss the design of the cascade control system which is composed of the servo controller and the deadbeat one. Finally, this paper examines the effectiveness of the proposed systems through numerical examples.

Our objective is to minimize the entire transportation time where the given transportation tasks are finished. A hybrid system modeling is applied for OHT system that is constituted by the OHT vehicles at the lower level and governed by the upper level scheduler. In the proposed modeling, it is clarified that the simultaneous optimization problems are recast as a binary integer linear problem by using model predictive control. This paper presents a numerical example and discusses limitation of proposed modeling.

  • On the output feedback control of discrete-valued input systems

Our controller provides high accuracy control performance for embedded devices with low-resolution AD/DA converters. For a certain system, we provide closed form and numerical solutions for the synthesis problem. The synthesis problem we address is the simultaneous synthesis of the nominal controller and the delta-sigma modulator (where the modulators are called the dynamic quantizers). Our approach is based on the invariant set analysis and the LMI technique. First, this paper proposes a synthesis condition that is recast as a set of matrix inequality condition. The condition reduces to a tractable numerical optimization problem. Second, a closed form solution of an optimal controller for the quantized feedback system is clarified within the invariant set framework. Finally, we discuss the controller synthesis conditions which are characterized by the transmission zero property. © 2013 IEEE.

Utilizing this method, we consider an optimal scheduling problem for an Automatic Guided Vehicle (AGV) transfer problem, which is to control AGV congestion at transport rail junctions. Our scheduling algorithm is based on model-predictive control in which the cycle of measurement, prediction and optimization is repeated. Its optimization is recast as an Integer Linear Programming (ILP) problem. Since little attention has been given to AGV scheduling based on model-predictive control, no method is, to our knowledge, known for determining appropriate cost functions. Here, we focus on throughput maximization and shortest transit time problems and show corresponding cost function settings. We also propose a visualization algorithm of AGV scheduling via state space realization, presenting numerical examples.

  • Multistep Scheduling Algorithm for Parallel and Distributed Processing in Heterogeneous Systems with Communication Costs

Existing scheduling algorithms formulated as 0-1 integer linear programming can be used to consider the optimality of task scheduling. However, they cannot address complicated relations among tasks or communication costs among processors. Therefore, we propose a scheduling algorithm that formulates communication costs as 0-1 integer linear programming. On the other hand, 0-1 integer linear programming takes a long time to calculate the scheduling results because it is NP-complete. Thus, scheduling time also needs to be decreased. A solution for decreasing scheduling time is a graph clustering which decomposes a large task graph into smaller subtask graphs (clusters). Also, it is important for parallel and distributed processing to find task parallelism in a task graph. Then, we also propose a clustering algorithm based on SCAN. SCAN is an algorithm for finding clusters in a network. The clustering algorithm based on SCAN can find task parallelism in a task graph. In numerical examples, we argue the following two points. First, our multistep scheduling algorithm resolves the scheduling problem in heterogeneous systems. Second, it is superior to the existing scheduling algorithms in terms of calculation time.

  • Numerical Optimization Design of Dynamic Quantizer via Matrix Uncertainty Approach

Such quantization often degrades the control performance; a quantizer must be designed that minimizes the output difference between before and after the quantizer is inserted. In terms of the broadbandization and the robustness of the networked control systems, we consider the continuous-time quantizer design problem. In particular, this paper describes a numerical optimization method for a continuous-time dynamic quantizer considering the switching speed. Using a matrix uncertainty approach of sampled-data control, we clarify that both the temporal and spatial resolution constraints can be considered in analysis and synthesis, simultaneously. Finally, for the slow switching, we compare the proposed and the existing methods through numerical examples. From the examples, a new insight is presented for the two-step design of the existing continuous-time optimal quantizer.

The existing scheduling algorithms formulated as 0-1 integer linear programming can consider optimality of a task scheduling. However, the existing scheduling algorithms cannot address complicated relations among tasks or cannot consider communication costs among processors. Then, first purpose is to propose a new scheduling algorithm with communication costs formulated as 0-1 integer linear programming. On the other hand, 0-1 integer linear programming is NP-complete and it takes long time to calculate scheduling result. Then, the second purpose is to decrease scheduling time. A solution decreasing scheduling time is a graph clustering which decomposes a large task graph into smaller sub-task graph (cluster). Also, it is important for parallel and distributed processing to find task parallelism in a task graph. Then, this paper proposes a clustering algorithm based on SCAN which is an algorithm for finding clusters in a network. The proposed algorithm can find task parallelism in a task graph. In numerical examples, the multistep scheduling algorithm is superior to the existing scheduling algorithm in terms of calculation time.

However, quantizing width of dynamic quantizer designed based on invariant sets has maintainability than one of designed based on reachable sets and big maintainability and poor control performance. We need to design quantizing width of dynamic quantizer based on reachable sets. In this study, we propose design method of quantizing width of dynamic quantizer based on reachable sets. The effectiveness is shown by numerical example.

It is clarified that the Constant-Trace Algorithm is effective for the adaptation, which consists of the detection of disturbances (external factors to change the amount of heat in the room) and the switching between the model learning with and without the disturbances. Also, this paper estimates the perturbation of the amount of heat based on the disturbance detection. In addition, this paper validates the effectiveness of our method by experiments.

  • Charging and discharging cycle design for performance evaluation of HV batteries

So, automobile manufacturers need to evaluate the batteries of various manufacturers and select the most appropriate one. In this case, they need a charge-discharge cycle to evaluate batteries quantitatively. In this paper, we call such a cycle an evaluation pattern and propose a design method of the pattern to evaluate the HV battery quantitatively. HV employs two power sources, motor and engine. In a HV, the appropriate distribution of output torques between the motor and engine is determined based on the driving condition (vehicle speed, acceleration rate, SOC, and so on). That leads to the dependence of the charge-discharge cycle on the driving condition. Therefore, our method divides actual driving data of HV into four driving modes (stopping, acceleration, steady running and deceleration) and then selects a representative pattern for every driving mode effectively by using regression analysis. As a result, we can narrow down the actual driving data that to a few representative patterns. The evaluation pattern is designed by combining the representative patterns. In addition, the quantitative evaluation pattern can be designed in a short time.

When it is required to use the quantizer under the network communication, the data size of signal should be minimized appropriately by the quantizers. The authors have proposed a design method of the dynamic quantizers for SISO systems based on the communication rate constraint. In this paper, the design method is extended to MIMO systems. By this extention, we can handle the concentrated systems with communication rate constraint, because many concentrated systems have some controlled objectives to achieve multi-tasks. In the setting of the quantizer for MIMO system, bit assignment is important matter for appropriate design of information flow. The effectiveness of proposed design method is shown by numerical examples.

In the networked control systems, the data size of the signals is limited because of the transmission rate of the communication channel. It is well known that feedback type dynamic quantizers such as Delta/Sigma modulator are effective for quantization of data series. The dynamic quantizer includes a set of the dynamic filter and the static quantizer. Many methods have been proposed to design the dynamic filter. However, the static quantizer part has not been designed although the quantization level number of the static quantizer has an effect on the data size. The simultaneous design of dynamic filter and the quantization level will be important issue to satisfy the given communication rate. In this paper, the integrated design method of the filter and the static quantizer is proposed based on the communication rate constraints. The proposed method is derived based on the invariant set analysis with LMIs. The effectiveness is shown by numerical examples.

    Proceedings of the Japan Joint Automatic Control Conference, The Japan Joint Automatic Control Conference, 54, 0, 15-15, 2011, 通信路を介する制御系においては,単位時間当たりに送信可能な情報量が限られているため,通信容量の制約への対処が重要課題の一つである.このとき,信号を通信容量を満たすデータ量に圧縮する量子化が必要となり,フィードバック型の動的量子化器が効果的であると知られている.本研究では,動的量子化器における量子化幅の最小化手法を提案する.提案法は出力可到達域に基づいたものであり,通信容量制約を満たした上で最小の量子化誤差を設定することができ,その結果として量子化誤差の影響を低減できる.その効果は従来研究との比較数値例にて確認する.

From the perspective of the invariant set analysis, we discuss the effectiveness and the limitation of our quantizer synthesis condition considering several performances. If the all transmission zeros of the given system are stable, the proposed quantizer gives an optimal output approximation property. Otherwise, our method can design a stable suboptimal quantizer guaranteed with infinite time control performance. The numerical examples show that our quantizer can achieve the coarsely-quantized signal, while avoiding the excess performance deterioration.

  • Synthesis of decentralized dynamic quantizer within invariant set analysis framework

We derive the synthesis condition that can be recast as parameter dependent linear matrix inequalities and has a closed-form solution under some circumstances. In the case of minimum phase systems, our method can provide an optimal decentralized dynamic quantizer in the sense that the quantizer gives an optimal output approximation property. Also, in the case of non-minimum phase systems, our method can provide a suboptimal stable decentralized dynamic quantizer. As a result, this paper gives a unified design method of the dynamic quantizer based on the invariant set analysis. © 2011 IFAC.

  • Integrated design of filter and interval in dynamic quantizer under communication rate constraint

It is well known that feedback type dynamic quantizers such as Delta/Sigma modulator are effective for encoding high resolution data into lower resolution data. The dynamic quantizers include a set of a filter and a static quantizer. When it is required to control under the communication rate constraint, the data size of signal should be minimized appropriately by quantization. In the field of control engineering, many dynamic quantizer design methods have been proposed in terms of the filter design. However, design of the static quantizer part has not been considered though it is also important to satisfy constraint of the data size. The quantization interval of the static quantizer part is strongly related to the data size. In this paper, an integrated design method of the filter and the quantization interval is proposed under the communication rate constraint. The proposed method is derived based on our previous work which design the interval to guarantee the communication rate constraint. By our proposed quantizer, the quantizer output satisfy the communication rate constraint and it gives good performance. The effectiveness of proposed quantizer is shown by numerical examples. © 2011 IFAC.

It is well known that feedback type dynamic quantizers are effective for quantization of the data series in the meaning of noise shaping. The dynamic quantizers include a set of a dynamic filter and a static quantizer. When it is required to use the quantizer under the network communication, the data size of signal should be minimized appropriately by the quantizers. The authors have proposed a design method of the dynamic quantizers for SISO systems based on the communication rate constraint. In this paper, the design method is extended to MIMO systems. By this extension, we can handle the communication rate constraint for a kind of concentrated systems. In the setting of the quantizer for MIMO system, bit assignment is important matter for appropriate design of information flow. The effectiveness of proposed design method is shown by numerical examples. © 2011 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

  • A multi-sector analysis for dynamic quantizer synthesis

We propose a multi-sector condition such that the quantization error is expressed in terms of the combination of various sector conditions. First, this paper proposes quantizer analysis conditions by using the multisector condition and the S-procedure. Second, this paper considers quantizer synthesis conditions based on the multisector analysis framework. Our method can design a stable quantizer such that the order of the quantizer is exactly the same as that of the given linear system and the infinite time control performance is always guaranteed. Finally, this paper points out that the proposed methods are helpful compared with the methods based on the invariant set analysis framework through numerical examples. © 2010 IEEE.

The control architecture is standard; a nominal LTI Output feedback with an anti-windup (AW) mechanism. Traditional approaches have focused on AW synthesis where the nominal controller is first designed to achieve a local performance in the linear region of the actuators and then the AW compensator is added to guarantee stability/performance properties when the actuators saturate. In contrast, this paper proposes a synthesis method to design both the nominal controller and the AW compensator simultaneously. Using the generalized sector (GS) approach in the multiplier setting, a Sufficient condition is given in terms of linear matrix inequalities so that a given ellipsoid is synthesized as a domain of attraction for the closed-loop system. Our result is shown to include the existing results on the simultaneous circle synthesis and the anti-windup GS synthesis as special cases. This paper also shows that the direct feed-through term in the AW compensator does not contribute to enlarging the achievable domain of attraction within the multiplier GS framework. One of them is an integrated design of full-order dynamical output feedback and anti-windup controllers with the same plant order, while the other is an integrated design of reduced-order dynamical output feedback and antiwindup controllers to be less than the number of available plant states from the plant order. The two methods assume the output of the nonlinearities to be available for the control. In this case, this paper indicates that the synthesis problems using the two methods can be recast as linear matrix inequality (LMI) optimization problems respectively. Furthermore, it is proved that two subsets of achievable domains of attraction using the two controllers are exactly the same. Thus this paper concludes that the reduced-order controller does not decrease the size of the achievable domain of attraction, within our framework, when compared with that resulting from the full-order controller.

This problem is mainly concerned with perfect tracking and/or rejection of exogenous signals generated by some external systems. This paper proposes a convex design procedure which allows us to design dynamic output feedback, anti-windup and feedforward controllers simultaneously based on the existing output regulatable conditions. Our proposed design procedure guarantees a local stability and achieves the desired output regulation performance in a specific state space domain (a domain of quadratic performance). It is pointed out that our derived conditions can be recast as the linear matrix inequality (LMI) conditions permitting the existence of an algebraic loop from the output to the input of the saturation inlinearities.

In particular, a new domain of 12 performance is defined by a region of initial states of the system considering the 12 performance and/or the pole placement For analysis, the problems based on the two approaches can be recast as linear matrix inequality (LMI) optimization ones respectively, and in the special case of single saturation or single dead-zone nonlinearity, it is proved that the generalized sector approach is exactly the same as the polytopic approach. Similarly, for synthesis, the problem based on the generalized sector approach can be recast as an LMI optimization problem where the outputs of the nonlinearities are assumed to be available for control. Next, the relation is clarified that the analysis and synthesis conditions can be reduced to the corresponding conditions for the continuous-time systems as the sampling period goes to zero. Finally, it is pointed out that our LMI-based approach is helpful through a numerical example designing anti-windup control systems.

  • Special Issue on Navigation and Control Technologies for Autonomous Mobility

    Autonomous mobility, as exemplified by self-driving cars, autonomous mobile robots, drones, etc., is essential to the acceleration and practical application of transportation services and the automation of delivery, guidance, security, and inspection. Therefore, in recent years, expectations have been building for autonomous mobility to grow as a technology that not only improves the convenience and comfort of transportation and the efficiency of logistics but also leads to solutions to various social problems. Various technological elements are required to ensure the safety and quality of autonomous mobility. For example, technology is needed to create environmental maps and automatically determine obstacles based on data acquired by cameras and sensors such as LiDAR. Technologies for planning appropriate routes and controlling robots safely and comfortably are also essential.

    This special issue highlights 24 exciting papers, including 20 research papers, three letters, and one development report. They are related to “recognition,” “decision and planning,” and “control” technologies for autonomous mobile robots, such as self-driving cars and drones. The papers’ keywords are as follows:

  • ホワイトリスト運用のための複数の制御機器情報に基づいた運転状態の推定

    産業用制御システム (ICS: Industrial Control System) をサイバー攻撃から防御する手法として,近年ホワイトリストを利用した異常検出手法が注目されている.先行研究ではICSの「停止中」や「立ち上げ」などの運転状態毎に異なる通信・動作パターンに着目し,運転状態に応じたホワイトリスト切り替え手法を提案した.加えて,複数機器で構成されるICSのうち1つの機器から取得した情報を利用してホワイトリストの切り替えに必要な運転状態情報を推定する手法について示した.これに対し本稿では,ネットワーク監視装置を利用して複数の機器から情報を取得することで運転状態を推定する.これにより,ホワイトリスト運用のための運転状態推定の信頼性向上を目指す.一方で運転状態推定に必要なトリガー信号はICSを構成する機器によって生成に要する時間が異なるため,本推定結果を利用するとホワイトリスト運用に支障をきたす可能性がある.そこで,本稿ではホワイトリストの切り替え手法も新たに提案する.また,提案手法の有用性を検証するために気液プラントシステムのシミュレーションモデルを用いて数値実験を行った.その結果,先行研究の手法と比較してより信頼性の高い運転状態の推定ができることを示した., 21 Jun. 2017, マルチメディア,分散協調とモバイルシンポジウム2017論文集, 2017, 1145-1151, Japanese, 170000177948

    Judder is well known oscillation occurring in dry clutches. To maintain riding comfort and silence in dry clutches, a lot of studies of judder analysis and machine design suppressing judder have been done. This paper describes the design and implementation of a robust control technique as a judder suppression approach for clutch during shifting. We address the automatic transmission using dry clutches of which the μ-V characteristics show a complicated nonlinearity. Specifically, their friction coefficient varies non-linearly with respect to the rotational speed during shifting. In this paper, it is clarified that the non-linear μ-V characteristic can be expressed as frequency uncertainties and then the control system is constructed with H∞ control. To verify the validity of such the approach, the results of simulation and bench testing are presented. As a result, we see that the proposed approach allows us to achieve the shifting without judder.
