  • Profile:
    1.Multi-Agent System is a research of Distributed Artificial Intelligence. MAS is not the same as Machine Learning based on Knowledge and Logic in AI but it is composed by many agents which interact each other and adapt thier action to the environment. Phenomena appeared in Ecology or Human Society are complicated and are difficult to make physical or mathematical models. In our laboratory we are concentrated on computer simuration of MAS for predicting or forcasting economy, road traffic and environment.

    2. Intelligent educational systems and e-Learning technologies based on Knowledge and Logic are studied in our laboratory. Main topics are Learner Models and Collaborative Learning.The results of research is applied in the UEC undergraduate course.

    3. I promote Software Engineering with Dr. Takeshi Oda and Distance Education with Dr.Masahisa Suzuki and Professer Yuko Kasahara.

    INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF INNOVATIVE COMPUTING INFORMATION AND CONTROL, ICIC INT, 4, 12, 3091-3100, Dec. 2008, Peer-reviwed, Among alternative methodologies, an approach considering how distributed controllers can be employed in complex systems in a multiagent setting is developing widely. The hierarchical decomposition as a pervasive method to deal with undesirable computation allows for reduced computation, and provides solutions for larger and more complicated problems. However, there is a necessity for research efforts in the arrangement of local operational performance criteria to optimize the overall performance of a whole system. This paper uses the method described in our previous works on decision making based on simulated computed policy functions in a multiagent system. We propose that a multiagent system design for efficient control with hierarchical representation is closely related to agent modeling features. Considering the individual and social criteria while retaining the benefits of hierarchical coordination among agents, is the main challenge of this paper. An experimental study with a game model shows that systems, which is more sensitive in terms of computational resources, can take advantages of hierarchical control design, where individual and social criteria play significant role in the system design mechanism.

    電気学会論文誌, The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan, C, 124-C, 2344-2352, Nov. 2004, Peer-reviwed, This paper is concerned with the development of a car-steering model for traffic simulation. Our focus in this paper is to propose a model of the steering behavior of a human driver for different driving scenarios. These scenarios are modeled in a unified framework using the idea of target position. The proposed approach deals with the driver's approximation and decision-making mechanisms in tracking a target position by means of fuzzy set theory. The main novelty in this paper lies in the development of a learning algorithm that has the intention to imitate the driver's self-learning from his driving experience and to mimic his maneuvers on the steering wheel, using linear networks as local approximators in the corresponding fuzzy areas. Results obtained from the simulation of an obstacle avoidance scenario show the capability of the model to carry out a human-like behavior with emphasis on learned skills.

  • ルールセット間距離によるマルチエージェントシステムのグループ形成過程の可視化

Analysis methods for the behavior are necessary to make application of multi-agent systems. Takashina, et. Al proposed a framework, individual level analysis, that focuses on the individual level characteristics of agents. The current method utilizes not the content of actions but just the entropy of its probability distribution. Therefore, the current method cannot deal with a organizing process such as autonomous role assignment in a system. In this paper, we propose ruleset distance which is a metric for the difference between two rulesets in a generic manner. It employs the difference of probability for each action when an input is given. As for its application, we employ the minority game with reinforcement learning agents. We conclude that the method is effective for the intuitive understanding of group formation process in the minority game.

These tools are intended to overcome the weak points of multiagent systems: that it is difficult to avoid mistakes in description and arbitrary modeling; and to find reliable explanations of causal relationships between the model and its result. We analyze some artificial market models using an evaluation process that consists of the evaluation of initial learning maturity, discrimination between models, and the visualization of attention tendency in a group. We conclude that these analytical methods are useful for the evaluation of multiagent based simulations in terms of validation and finding causal relations.

  • 電力自由化市場エージェントモデルにおけるエージェントレベルでの学習能力評価

    シミュレーション(日本シミュレーション学会誌), Japan Society for Simmulation Technology, 20, 1, 86-94, Mar. 2001, Peer-reviwed, ABM (Agent Based Modeling/Model) becomes a new approach in simulation technology. ABM is composed by a set of autonomous agents and the validity of ABM can be estimated by evaluating the characteristics not only at system level but at agent level. Since any agent of ABM behaves adaptively, the validity must be proved by showing a fact that the agent's learning proceeds correctly in the simulation. In this paper we propose a metric of quantifying learning process and a method which evaluates agent's learning by the metric. We built an ABM simulator of a competitive market in electric power and the method was applied to the simulation results. Then we derived the conclusion that the ambiguity in rule decision decreases, agents learn rules correctly and the metric works effectively.

It has the functions of evaluating student's behaviors and supporting teacher's pedagogical decisions. Though collaborative learning has the advantage of a good education, some student may be interrupted the current activity of learning. The function supports the teacher to find the candidates of collaboration. The prototype of HyperClassroom is designed and the question and answer environment which helps students and staffs for thier communication is Installed in it. The some experimental results of categorizing students by their learning behavior records and the dialogues during session learning in the computer classroom are obtained.

The behavior pattern of the model is represented by finite state automata. Simple adaptive behavior of animals was observed in this simulation. This indicates that mutation is effective method for self adaptive behavior and the possibility that the model can be used as a framework for autonomous agents.

    IEICE TRANSACTIONS ON INFORMATION AND SYSTEMS, IEICE-INST ELECTRON INFO COMMUN ENG, E77D, 10, 1170-1178, Oct. 1994, Peer-reviwed, Among the problems that face ITS designers, the problem of measuring the student knowledge state after concept learning in order to initially adapt a skill acquisition session according to a student's own necessities is a hard one. Typical approaches are the use of some sort of test to assess the student knowledge and choose an initial set of parameters for a session, or use, regardless the particular necessities of a student, a pre-defined set of initial parameters. We consider the former to be disrupting for learning and the latter too simple to deal with the broad possibilities that are faced. It is known that students show different behaviors during concept learning depending on the experiene, background and actual understanding (the way a student is understanding a conxept) during concept learning. Our approach here is to classify the different behaviors through fuzzy propositions and link them with a student model through fuzzy rules to use in an expert system, and with it, select the most suitable problem-solving strategy for each particular student in order to clear his misunderstandings and facilitate the learning of problem-solving skills. The use of probabilistic reasoning (i.e. Bayesian statistics) instead of fuzzy logic is not suitable for the present situation because of the rigidity and precision of the rules that do not allow a proper manipulation of the vagueness involved in the student behavior. We apply this idea to a circuit analysis ITS where the concept learning session is carried out on a Hypertext environment and the skill acquisition session on an interactive problem-solving environment. By tracing the student use of the Hypertext environment we can know the student behavior and use it as a premise in the fuzzy inference.
