In MIMO systems, LRAD achieves good bit error ratios (BERs). The proposed detection method reduces the column vectors of the channel matrix using the LLL algorithm and then the GS procedure to create mutually purely orthogonal column vectors in order to improve BER. The proposed detection method can achieve more reliable estimation of the transmitted signals than the conventional LLL algorithm, and the BERs are improved about 5dB at BER=10-5 for the 8x8 MIMO system over the conventional LLL algorithm. Also the BER curves for the proposed detection is as steep as those for the conventional LRAD. ©2010 IEEE.

  • An MMSE detector applying reciprocal-lattice reduction in MIMO systems

The proposed detector achieves as good as or better BER performances than the LR aided detector using the conventional LLL algorithm and using the Seysen's algorithm in the 4x4 and the 8x8 MIMO systems. It also achieves BER curves to be as steep as or steeper than those using the maximum likelihood detector. ©2010 IEEE.

  • A study of SLM PAPR reduction of OFDM signals without side information

    Proceedings - 2010 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications, ATC 2010, 2010, 1, 168-171, 2010, Peer-reviwed, Selected mapping (SLM) is a well-known technique to reduce the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). SLM generally requires the side information for each OFDM symbol, which leads to decrease the transmitting efficiency. In addition, false side information detection degrades the bit error rate performance significantly. In this paper, we propose a novel SLM scheme without any side information by devising a phase rotation and simple scrambler detection in the receiver. Computer simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves excellent performances in terms of both PAPR reduction and BER. ©2010 IEEE.

    ATC 2009 - Proceedings of the 2009 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications, 2009, 1, 304-307, 2009, Peer-reviwed, In helicopter satellite communications, the periodic blockage of received signal and the carrier frequency fluctuation are the most important problems. In this paper, we propose a novel automatic frequency controller (AFC) scheme with time diversity combining. The proposed AFC generates the frequency error signal based on the time diversity combined signal. The signal-to-noise power ratio (SNR) of the frequency error signal is therefore prevented from falling to zero even in the condition of signal blockage. The proposed AFC thus tracks and removes the carrier frequency fluctuation due to Doppler shift more exactly than the conventional one. Results of computer simulation show that the proposed AFC improves the SNR of the frequency error signal significantly. It is meant that the proposed AFC also improves both of the acquisition characteristics and jitter performance even in the severe environments of the helicopter satellite communications. ©2009 IEEE.

We propose a symbol detection scheme which allows to extend the limit on the number of transmit antennas imposed by the previous group detection scheme. The proposed scheme allows to double multiplexing gain as well as provides better bit error rate (BER) performance over the group detection scheme. It is shown that the proposed QR-SIC (combined QR-decomposition and successive interference cancellation) symbol detector provides good trade-off between the BER and computational complexity performance and, thus, is the most suitable detector for the combined STBC-SM system.

    IEICE TRANSACTIONS ON FUNDAMENTALS OF ELECTRONICS COMMUNICATIONS AND COMPUTER SCIENCES, IEICE-INST ELECTRONICS INFORMATION COMMUNICATIONS ENG, E89A, 10, 2535-2542, Oct. 2006, Peer-reviwed, Recently, lattice reduction aided (LRA) detectors have been introduced into Vertical Bell-Labs Layered Space-Time (V-BLAST) systems to obtain nearly optimal bit error rate (BER) performance for only small additional complexity. In this paper, the layer error characteristics of LRA-V-BLAST detectors are investigated and compared with those of conventional V-BLAST ones. Two important conclusions are drawn for the LRA-V-BLAST detectors. First, the variation of their mean square error (MSE) within each detection iteration is not as large as in conventional V-BLAST detectors. Second, thanks to lattice reduction there exists an inherent sub-optimal detection order from the last to the first layer. These conclusions allow LRA-V-BLAST detectors to avoid optimal ordering to further reduce the complexity. LRA-V-BLAST detectors without optimal ordering are shown to obtain almost the same BER performance of LRA-V-BLAST detector with optimal ordering.

We derive the optimum weight matrix used to decouple simultaneously signals from active multiple access users using the minimum mean square error (MMSE) multiuser detection method. The proposed scheme provides good performance over different models of the frequency selective fading channel. It is also to show that if the length of the cyclic prefix is larger than that of the channel, the performance of the detector depends on only the total energy extracted from multipath components but not the employed channel model, the number of multipath components or the delay of each multipath component.

The optimal decision metrics of time-domain MSDD (TD-MSDD) and frequency-domain MSDD (FD-MSDD) are derived by calculating the exact covariance matrix under the assumption that the guard time is longer than the delay spread, thus causing no effective intersymbol interference (ISI). Since the complexity of calculating the exact covariance matrix turns out to be substantial for FD-MSDD, we also develop a suboptimal metric based on the simplified covariance matrix. The comparative analysis between TD-MSDD and FD-MSDD suggests that the most significant improvement is achieved by the FD-MSDD with the optimal metric and a large symbol observation interval, since the time selectiveness of the channel has a dominant effect on the bit error rate of the OFDM system.

    IEICE, The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers, J81-B-(]G0002[), 9, 846-854, 1998, Peer-reviwed, 差動PSK信号をダイバーシチ受信する場合, 原理上は同期検波後最大比合成方式によりビット誤り率特性の理論下界を達成可能であるが, フェージング下で完全な搬送波再生を行うことは困難である.本論文では, 理論下界へのアプローチとして, さきに提案した多重位相遅延検波の信号処理をダイバーシチ受信に導入し, その有効性につき検討する.フェージングにより伝送路特性が変動する場合, 受信信号がコヒーレントである(すなわち, フェージングの時間相関が高い)とみなせる時間内に多シンボル遅延検波を完了する必要がある.従って, 多重位相遅延検波の信号処理は, 変動の緩慢なフェージング下で特に有効となり, 高速変動するフェージング下では有効性は低下するものと予想される.この観点に基づき, さまざまな速さのレイリーフェージング下でのビット誤り率特性を, 計算機シミュレーションにより検証した.その結果, (1)緩慢なフェージング下では理論下界に0.5dB差にまで迫る特性を示す, (2)高速変動するフェージング下でも場合により従来の遅延検波後最大比合成方式よりも良好な特性を示す, 等のことが判明し, ダイバーシチ受信に多重位相遅延検波の信号処理を導入することの有効性が確認された.

    Proceeding of IEICE, The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers, 78, 2, 127-132, Feb. 1995, Peer-reviwed, アナログ方式の移動通信では,無線アクセス方式として,主にFDMA方式が採用されてきた.1990年代に入り,日,米,欧の公衆移動通信はディジタル化され,周波数利用効率が高く,ディジタル方式と整合性の良いTDMA方式が主流となった.一方,CDMA方式はTDMA方式より更に周波数利用効率が高く,システムの拡張性が柔軟で経済的な系が構築できる可能性があるという点で期待されている.本稿では,TDMA方式とCDMA方式の概要を述べ,これらを比較すると共に,今後の課題について触れる.

First, an approximate metric including channel estimation is derived analytically for this proposed adaptive combined MLSE. Secondly, procedures to accomplish blind equalization are investigated for the proposed MLSE. Finally, its excellent BER performance on fast time-varying fading channels is confirmed by computer simulation, when the proposed MLSE operates as a blind equalizer.

    IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON COMMUNICATIONS, IEEE-INST ELECTRICAL ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS INC, 42, 2-4, 1872-1880, Feb. 1994, Peer-reviwed, This paper proposes an adaptive maximum-likelihood sequence estimator (MLSE), which is a suboptimum approximation to the adaptive maximum-likelihood detector and is capable of tracking fast time-varying intersymbol interference (ISI) channels. The adaptive MLSE consists of a channel estimator and an MLSE implemented by the Viterbi algorithm (VA). The novel feature of the proposed adaptive MLSE is a channel estimation scheme, where the channel estimation is accomplished for each state in the VA along the surviving path connected to each state. This MLSE makes it possible to estimate a channel impulse response without an influence of a decision delay inherent in the VA, and the performance and complexity of the proposed procedure is controlled by the memory length of the VA. The bit error rate performance of the proposed MLSE is confirmed by experimental results. It is shown that the proposed MLSE has a capability of excellent tracking performance in a severe environment caused by fast time-varying ISI, for example frequency selective multipath fading in digital mobile radio communications.
