    1、理化学研究所核化学研究室に於いて、メスバウアー分光法を用いて固体の磁性の研究を行なった。
    2、北海道大学量子界面エレクトロニクス研究センターに於いて、化合物半導体量子デバイスの作成・評価を行なった。
    3、現在電気通信大学に於いて、ホウ化物・炭化物等新規超伝導物質や金属間化合物磁性体の作成を行ない、放射光を用いた軟X線吸収・発光分光や核共鳴分光による電子状態の研究を行なっている。

  • Sm valence states and magnetic properties in SmBe13 and SmTi2Al20 investigated by Sm synchrotron-radiation-based Mossbauer spectroscopy

    HYPERFINE INTERACTIONS, SPRINGER, 238, 100/1-8, Nov. 2017, Peer-reviwed, Synchrotron-Radiation-based Sm-149 Mossbauer spectroscopy was applied to Sm intermetallics, SmBe13 and SmTi2Al20. Temperature dependence of the Mossbauer parameters in SmBe13 indicate the Sm valence state is purely trivalent. SmBe13 also showed second-order Doppler shift in synchrotron-radiation-based Sm-149 Mossbauer spectroscopy. The Mossbauer parameters obtained in SmTi2Al20 suggest that the Sm valence is fluctuating and the magnitude of the magnetic moment is reduced by hybridization between 4f and conduction electrons and/or effect of crystal electric field.

  • Electronic Structures of Aluminum-Doped Diamond near the Fermi Level

Jpn., 84, 4, 044704/1-044704/6, 09 Mar. 2015, Peer-reviwed, Aluminum-doped diamond samples were synthesized using the conventional microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition method. The electronic structures were measured using an electron probe microanalyzer and by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The area intensity of the partial profile of Al-3p near the Fermi level increased with increasing aluminum concentration in the sample. The partial profile of Al-3p resembles that of C-2p at high aluminum concentrations, which suggests strong hybridization between Al-3p and C-2p. Additionally, the temperature dependence of the electric resistance yields an activation energy of 8.2 meV at room temperature. The present results suggest the metal–insulator transition of aluminum-doped diamond, similar to that of boron-doped diamond. However, with increasing aluminum concentration, a considerable amount of carriers is not doped to C-2p orbitals in aluminum-doped diamond. The present results indicate that superconductivity in aluminum-doped diamond with the same mechanism as that in boron-doped diamond does not occur.

  • Observation of Domain Structures Near the alpha-INC-beta Phase Boundary in Quartz Using X-ray Topography

    FERROELECTRICS, TAYLOR & FRANCIS LTD, 441, 3-8, 2012, Peer-reviwed, The domain structures near the alpha-INC-beta phase boundary in quartz were simultaneously observed using synchrotron radiation X-ray topography and optical microscopy. In (1-10) topographic images of Z-cut samples, a fine structure corresponding to the "m-zone" in the optical microscopic image was observed. In (3-31) topographic image, at the "fog-zone" of the alpha phase side, a marble-like domain, which has never been seen before, with clear contrast was observed. A section topography of the marble-like domain showed that this domain formed a needle shape along the Z-axis. Therefore, the boundary of these domains is the origin of the property of opalescence.

Careful determination of measured momentum space that across F point in the Brillouin zone (BZ) and increase of an energy resolution provide further spectroscopic evidence that EF is located at the highly dispersive diamond-like bands, indicating that holes at the top of the diamond-like valence band play an essential role for the conducting properties of the heavily boron-doped superconducting diamond for this boron-doping region (effective carrier concentration of 1.6%).   • Conformational change detection in nonmetal proteins by direct electrochemical oxidation using diamond electrodes

    ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY, AMER CHEMICAL SOC, 80, 15, 5783-5787, Aug. 2008, Peer-reviwed, In this report, we established a new electrochemical method for the detection of conformational changes in large, non-metalloproteins such as bovine serum albumin, using flow injection analysis coupled with hydrogen-terminated, boron-doped diamond electrodes. The oxidation current was used as a signal reporter in the monitoring of urea-induced BSA denaturation. In the denatured state at high urea concentrations, the electrochemical signal increased, and the amperometric responses for the oxidation potential at 1300 mV were consistent with the results of conventional methods of denaturation monitoring using fluorescence spectroscopy. The oxidation involved at least five redox-active species (cysteine, tryptophan, tyrosine, methionine, and disulfide bonds). Furthermore, the method also showed high sensitivity for quantitative analysis of protein. A linear dynamic in the concentration range 50-400 mu g/mL (r(2) = 0.977) with a lower detection limit of 190 ng/mL was achieved for BSA. Direct electrochemical detection of conformation changes of proteins using BDD electrodes can be performed with advantages in terms of simplicity and sensitivity.

  • Holes in the Valence Band of Superconducting Boron-Doped Diamond Film Studied by Soft X-ray Absorption and Emission Spectroscopy

Jpn, THE PHYSICAL SOCIETY OF JAPAN, 77, 5, 054711/1-6, Apr. 2008, Peer-reviwed, Carbon- and boron-2p states of superconducting and non-superconducting boron-doped diamond (BDD) samples are measured using soft X-ray emission and absorption spectroscopy (XES and XAS) near C- and B-K edges. The electronic structure of B 2p does not show a marked boron-doping dependence, except that a considerable amount of in-gap state in empty states is observed. In C-K XAS spectra, two peaks H and I are observed around the Fermi level. The H peak is attributed to 2p state of carbon first-nearest neighboring to the dopant boron atoms (1NN-C), and the I peak to 2p state of carbon further than 1NN-C from an impurity boron. Incoherent (normal-excitation) XES spectra do not show a large chemical shift by B-doping, but its intensity just below the valence band maximum (VBM) decreases with B-doping. It cannot be interpreted within a simple rigid band model. An elastic peak of I-excited C-K XES spectrum and the width of I-peak of C-K XAS spectrum suggest that impurity state is localized in non-superconducting BDD but is not in superconducting BDD. Namely impurity state of superconducting BDD is merged with the valence band, and holes in the merged state play an important role in the occurrence of superconductivity of BDD.

  • Hole Distribution in (Sr,Ca,Y,La)14Cu24O41 Compounds Studied by X-ray Absorption and Emission Spectroscopy

Jpn, THE PHYSICAL SOCIETY OF JAPAN, 77, 3, 034704/1-11, Feb. 2008, Peer-reviwed, The polarization dependence of soft x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and x-ray emission spectroscopy (XES) near the O 1s absorption edge was measured on two-leg ladder single-crystalline samples of (Sr,Ca,Y,La)14Cu24O41 (14-24-41). The hole distributions in 14-24-41 compounds are determined by polarization analysis. For samples with less than or equal to 5 holes/chemical formula (c.f.), all holes reside on the edge-shared chain layer. In the case of Sr14−xCaxCu24O41 (6 holes/c.f.), there is approximately one hole on the two-leg ladder layer, with about five holes remaining on the edge-shared chain layer. By Ca substitution for Sr in the Sr14−xCaxCu24O41 samples, 0.3 holes transfer from the edge-shared chain to the two-leg ladder layer. It is possible that some of the holes on the two-leg ladder layer move from the rung sites to the leg sites upon Ca substitution.

  • Multiple bosonic mode coupling in the electron self-energy of (La2-xSrx)CuO4

    PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS, AMER PHYSICAL SOC, 95, 11, 11700/1-4, Sep. 2005, Peer-reviwed, High resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy data along the (0, 0)-(pi,pi) nodal direction with significantly improved statistics reveal fine structure in the electron self-energy of the underdoped (La2-xSrx)CuO4 samples in the normal state. Fine structure at energies of (40-46) meV and (58-63) meV, and possible fine structure at energies of ( 23 - 29) meV and ( 75 - 85) meV, have been identified. These observations indicate that, in (La2-xSrx) CuO4, more than one bosonic modes are involved in the coupling with electrons.

  • X-ray spectroscopy study on the electronic structure of hole-doped edge-shared chains in Ca2+xY2-xCu5O10

    JOURNAL OF ELECTRON SPECTROSCOPY AND RELATED PHENOMENA, ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV, 148, 1, 65-72, Jul. 2005, Peer-reviwed, X-ray absorption (XAS) and emission (YES) spectroscopy near O K edge has been performed on edge-shared CuO chain compounds Ca2+xY2-xCu5O10 (0.0 <= x <= 2.0) using poly- and single-crystalline samples. Two large peaks are observed at 528 eV (P-H) and 530 eV (P-H) in the XAS spectra. The intensity of the PH peak monotonically increases and that of the Pu monotonically decreases with hole doping. The two characteristic peaks in the XAS spectra at PH and P-U, which are assigned for the polycrystalline samples to the hole and upper Hubbard band (UHB) states, respectively. The theoretical calculations reproduce the experimental XAS results, especially that the PH peak decreases by hole doping. The spectral weight transfer from the P-U peak to the PH peak of the edge-shared chain by hole doping is strongly suppressed in comparison with that of the CuO2 plane. From the single crystal measurements of undoped Ca2Y2Cu5O10, the spectra of XAS and XES are interpreted in terms of a square-like CuO4 plaquette for the compound. As for the hole-doped Ca3YCu5O10 sample, the plaquette containing a doped hole is found to be square-like, and the plaquettes with no doped holes are found to be rectangle-like. We concluded that the doped hole is localized associated with the lattice deformation. The electric properties are discussed based on our result. (c) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All Rights Reserved.

  • Electronic structures of B 2p and C 2p levels in boron-doped diamond films studied using soft x-ray absorption and emission spectroscopy

    PHYSICAL REVIEW B, AMERICAN PHYSICAL SOC, 70, 24, 245111/1-6, Dec. 2004, Peer-reviwed, X-ray absorption (XAS) and emission (XES) spectroscopy near B K and C K edges have been performed on metallic (similar to0.1 at. % B, B-diamond) and semiconducting (similar to0.03 at. % B and N, BN-diamond) doped diamond films. Both B K XAS and XES spectra show a metallic partial density of states (PDOS) with the Fermi energy of 185.3 eV, and there is no apparent boron-concentration dependence in contrast to the different electric property. In C K XAS spectrum of B-diamond, the impurity state ascribed to boron is clearly observed near the Fermi level. The Fermi energy is found to be almost same with the top of the valence band of nondoped diamond: E-V=283.9 eV. C K XAS of BN-diamond shows both the B-induced shallow level and N-induced deep and broad levels as the in-gap states, in which the shallow level is in good agreement with the activation energy (E-a=0.37 eV) estimated from the temperature dependence of the conductivity; namely, the change in C 2p PDOS of impurity-induced metallization is directly observed. The electric property of this diamond is ascribed mainly to the electronic structure of C 2p near the Fermi level. The observed XES spectra are compared with the discrete variational Xalpha (DVXalpha) cluster calculation. The DVXalpha result supports the strong hybridization between B 2p and C 2p observed in XAS and XES spectra, and suggests that the small amount of boron (less than or equal to0.1 at. %) in diamond occupies the substitutional site rather than interstitial site.

  • Electronic structure of B 2p sigma and p pi states in MgB2, AlB2, and ZrB2 single crystals

    PHYSICAL REVIEW B, AMER PHYSICAL SOC, 68, 6, 064515/1-5, Aug. 2003, Peer-reviwed, The effect of electron correlation (EC) on the electronic structure in MgB2, AlB2, and ZrB2, is studied by examining the partial density of states (PDOS) of B 2psigma and ppi orbitals using the polarization dependence of x-ray emission and absorption spectra. The discrepancies between observed and calculated PDOS's cannot be attributed to EC effects. The present results suggest that the EC effect is less than the experimental error (similar to0.2 eV), which indirectly supports a scenario that electron-phonon interaction plays an essential role in the occurrence of superconductivity.

  • Electronic structure of B-2p state in AIB(2) single crystal: Direct observation of p sigma and p pi density of states

    JOURNAL OF THE PHYSICAL SOCIETY OF JAPAN, PHYSICAL SOC JAPAN, 71, 2, 408-410, Feb. 2002, Peer-reviwed, X-ray emission (XES) and absorption (XAS) spectra near the B-K edge were measured on single-crystalline AIB(2) compound which is an isostructural diboride of superconducting MgB2. The partial density of states (PDOS) of B-2psigma and ppi orbitals were derived from the polarization dependence of XES and XAS spectra. There are considerable amounts of PDOS near the Fermi energy in AIB(2) similarly to that in MgB2, but there are almost no PDOS in psigma orbitals of AIB(2) near the Fermi energy, i.e., a pseudo-gap in psigma state and a broad metallic state in ppi state are observed. The present result indirectly supports scenarios that the p(7 holes play an important role in the occurrence of superconductivity in MgB2. The overall features of PDOS were found to be in good agreement with the result of band calculation of AIB(2), but a small discrepancy in the Fermi energy is observed, which is attributed to the Al vacancy in the compounds, i.e., the estimated concentration is Al0.93B2.

  • Direct observation of self-interstitial motion in pure iron by Fe-56(d,p)Fe-57 in-beam Mossbauer spectroscopy

    DIFFUSIONS IN MATERIALS: DIMAT2000, PTS 1 & 2, SCITEC PUBLICATIONS LTD, 194-1, 29-34, 2001, Peer-reviwed, Using the Fe-56 (d, p) Fe-57(*) reaction, in-beam Mossbauer spectra of Fe-57(*) implanted into pure Fe were obtained between 50 and 700 K at crystal orientations of the gamma -emission varying from [100] to [110]. Comparison with the spectra of Fe-57(*) on substitutional sites as measured conventionally reveals marked differences between the two sets of hyperfine parameters and indicates the presence of Fe-57(*) on defect sites at times of order of magnitude of 10(-7) s after implantation. Between 400 and 700 K these differences depend strongly on the crystal orientation. The observations allow us to study the jumps of Fe-57(*) on non-lattice sites on the time scale 10(-7) s.

  • Transport properties of Schottky in-plane-gate GaAs single and coupled quantum wire transistors

    COMPOUND SEMICONDUCTORS 1998, IOP PUBLISHING LTD, 162, 162, 409-414, 1999, Peer-reviwed, Schottky in-plane-gate (IPG) single and coupled quantum wire transistors were fabricated, and their basic transport properties of the quantum devices were investigated. The IPG structure realizes strong electron confinement in contrast to conventional split-gate structure. For the single quantum wire transistor, quantized conductance was observed at low temperature and possesses the temperature dependence. Observed temperature dependence was consistent with theoretical prediction based on TL-liquid picture. The coupled quantum wire transistor shows peaks and dips in the output characteristics with changing gate bias. This is explained in terms of coupled transport taking place at the certain gate bias.

    PHYSICAL REVIEW B, AMERICAN PHYSICAL SOC, 56, 17, 10730-10733, Nov. 1997, Peer-reviwed, The nuclear-electric-quadrupole interactions at In-117 and Cd-111 nuclei arising from Cd-117 and Cd-111m, respectively, chemically introduced in Li0.995Cd0.005NbO3 polycrystals were studied using the time-differential perturbed angular correlation of gamma rays. The \V-zz(lattice)\ values derived for In-117 and Cd-111 coincided with each other, i.e., 3.4(1) x 10(20) V/m(2) and 3.4(5) x 10(20) V/m(2), respectively, meaning that the In and Cd ions are in the same lattice environment in the forms of In3+ and Cd2+. Although these probes are considered to occupy the Li sites, the above values of V-zz(lattice) are substantially different from the previously reported value for Li-7, 0.7 x 10(20) V/m(2), which is ascribable to the structural relaxation around the probe atoms. The temperature dependence of omega(Q) of In-117 indicates that the In ion vibrates anisotropically about its equilibrium position at high temperatures, as has been argued for the Li ion In LiNbO3. [S0163-1829(97)04942-4].

    JOURNAL OF THE PHYSICAL SOCIETY OF JAPAN, PHYSICAL SOC JAPAN, 64, 12, 4739-4747, Dec. 1995, Peer-reviwed, Electric field gradients at In-117(<-- Cd-117) nuclei in BaRu2/3(M(0.97) Cd-116(0.03))(1/3) O-3 (M = Ca, Cd, and Sr) were measured in the temperature range between 4 and 773 K by time-differential perturbed-angular-correlation of the 90-345 keV cascade gamma-rays. For each oxide, the quadrupole interaction frequency markedly increases below a specific temperature; the temperatures are between 4 and 77 K for M = Ca, and about 300 and 600 K for M = Cd and Sr, respectively. Combined with the results of the X-ray powder diffraction measurements, it is concluded that a hexagonal-monoclinic structural phase transition, associated with a deformation of MO(6) octahedra, takes place at the temperature.

  • MAGNETIC COMPTON PROFILES OF FERROMAGNETIC INTERMETALLIC COMPOUND MNSB

    JOURNAL OF THE PHYSICAL SOCIETY OF JAPAN, PHYSICAL SOC JAPAN, 64, 4, 1385-1393, Apr. 1995, Peer-reviwed, Directional magnetic Compton profiles (MCPs) of ferromagnetic intermetallic compound Mn1.1Sb are measured using a circularly polarized synchrotron radiation light source. The overall shape of the derived momentum-density distribution of the magnetic electrons is reproduced well with the Hartree-Fock 3d wavefunction of free Mn atoms except in the low momentum region(\P\ less than or similar to 2.0 atomic units). The anisotropy observed in the low momentum region is inexplicable only with the population, determined previously by a polarized neutron measurement, of unpaired electrons in Mn-3d orbitals in the trigonal crystalline field. The present result suggests an additional anisotropic negative polarization of Sb-5p electrons. The anisotropy is discussed using the hydrogen-like atomic Sb-5p wavefunctions.

    PHYSICS LETTERS B, ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV, 335, 1, 29-34, Aug. 1994, Peer-reviwed, Ejectile spin polarization P in intermediate-energy projectile fragmentation has been measured for different targets and incident energies using the RIPS fragment separator at RIKEN. The observed P as a function of the fragment momentum shows a systematic change when the atomic number of the target or the incident energy is varied. Most remarkably, P does not vanish at the momentum corresponding to the beam velocity, indicating an important effect which has not been considered in the previously proposed model.

  • HYPERFINE INTERACTIONS OF SB-121 IN A MAGNETIC CHALCOGEN SPINEL CUCR2-XSBXS4

    NUCLEAR INSTRUMENTS & METHODS IN PHYSICS RESEARCH SECTION B-BEAM INTERACTIONS WITH MATERIALS AND ATOMS, ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV, 76, 1-4, 39-41, Apr. 1993, Peer-reviwed, Sb-121 Mossbauer spectra for a ferromagnetic chalcogen spinel CuCr2-xSbxS4 (0.1 less-than-or-equal-to x less-than-or-equal-to 0.4) were measured at 77 K. From the value of the isomer shifts, Sb ions are found to be in trivalent state. A large hyperfine magnetic field, H(hf), of 510 kOe is observed for the sample with x = 0.1, but the field decreases with the increase of Sb content x. The magnitude of H(hf) is discussed in comparison with the one previously observed at Sn-119 in a similar compound CuCr2-xSnxS4.

  • SB-121 MOSSBAUER-SPECTROSCOPY OF MN1+XSB

    HYPERFINE INTERACTIONS, BALTZER SCI PUBL BV, 68, 1-4, 311-314, 1991, Peer-reviwed, Sb-121 Mossbauer spectra for ferromagnets, Mn1+xSb (0.00 less-than-or-equal-to x less-than-or-equal-to 0.22) in epsilon-phase were measured at 77 K. The large unique hyperfine magnetic field (H(hf) = 361 kOc) at x = 0 tends to decrease and to have a wide distribution with increase of x. The decreasing ratio of the mean value of H(hf) for the nonstoichiometric samples is in accordance with that of their magnetization M(S)(x), i.e., the relation H(hf)BAR(x)/H(hf)(0) = M(S)(x)/M(S)(0) holds in this system.

  • Investigation of the Spin-Phase Separation in LaCoO3 by High-field Magnetization

    Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, The University of Electro-Communications, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), The present study reveals the mechanism of the temperature-induced spin-state transition of LaCoO3 by investigating the high-field magnetization process of the doped LaCoO3 specimens. The Co3+ ions, which are in the low-spin (LS) state in the lowest temperature, are thermally excited to the high-spin (HS) state above about 30 K. However, the number of the Co3+ ions in the HS state is limited to about 15 % due to a large repulsive interaction among HS Co3+ ions. With further increase of the temperature, the remaining LS Co3+ ions are thermally excited to the intermediate-spin (IS) state around 100 K. It is suggested that other physical properties, such as magnetostriction, of LaCoO3 can be understood in accordance with the present model where HS and IS states coexist above 100 K., 24540365

  • Research on partial electronic density of states in superoonducting diborides by x-ray absorption and emission spectroscopies

    Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, The University of Electro-Communications, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), X-ray emission (XES) and obsorption (XAS) spectra near the B K-edge were measured on single-crystalline AlB2 which is an isostructural diboride of superconducting MgB2, and on single-crystalline MgB2. The partial density of states (PDOS) of B-2p-σ and p-π orbitals were derived from the polarization dependence of XES and XAS spectra. The overall features of PDOS were found to be in good agreement with the result of band calculation of AlB2 and MgB2. There are considerable amounts of PDOS near the Fermi energy in AlB2 similarly to that in MgB2, but there are almost no PDOS in p-σ orbitals of AlB2 near the Fermi energy, i.e., a pseudo-gap in p-σ state and a broad metallic state in p-π state are observed, On the contrary, there are considerable amount of PDOS in p-σ orbitals of MgB2 near the Fermi energy, i.e., broad metallic states in p-π state and p-σ state are observed The present result indirectly supports scenarios that the p-σ holes play an important role in the occurrence of superconductivity in MgB2. The effect of electron correlation (EC) on the partial density of state (PDOS) were studied by the polarization dependence of x-ray emission and absorption spectra of MgB2, AlB2 single crystals. There are some discrepancies between the observed PDOSs and theoretical ones, although these are contrary to the electron-correlation effects. The present results suggest that the EC effect is less than the experimental error (0.2 eV), which indirectly supports a scenario that electron-phonon interaction plays an essential role in the occurrence of superconductivity., 14540330

  • Study on Effects of Pr to Site Specific Electronic Structure of High Tc Superconducting Oxide probed by soft-x-ray absorption and emission spectroscopy

    Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, The University of Electro-Communications, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), The site specific electronic structures of oxygen in PrBa_2Cu_3O_7 and YBa_2Cu_3O_7 compounds were recorded from the measurements of O 1 s total x-ray-fluorescence yield and O Kα x-ray fluorescence emission spectra of PrBa_2Cu_3O_7 and YBa_2Cu_3O_7 single crystals. The polarization dependence of the x-ray absorption spectra(XAS) near oxygen absorption edge in the specimens is attributed to the excitation of four in equivalent oxygen sites : O(1) chain, O (2) and O(3) in-plane, and O(4) apical oxygens and the hole states of the oxygens were specified. Thereafter, we obtained the site specific electronic structure by the O Ka x-ray emission spectra (XES), exciting the target oxygen by the use of polarization and energy dependence of hole state. The evidence of hybridization between the Pr 4f and O p-π orbital was observed in the spectrum of O(2,3) in plane of PrBa_2Cu_3O_7) which was predicted by Fehrenbacher : and Rice. The spectrum is consistent with the band theoretical calculation by Liechtenstein and Mazin, based on the Fehrenbacher and Rice model. The site specific electronic structures of oxygen in PrBa_2Cu_4O_8 and YBa_2Cu_4O_8 compounds were recorded from the measurements of O 1 s total x-ray-fluorescence yield and O Ka x-ray fluorescence emission spectra of the single crystals. Consistent results with the theory by Fehrenbacher and Rice were obtained also in these compounds, 11640341
