Japanese Journal of Applied Physics 56, 112401 (2017), The Japan Society of Applied Physics, 56, 11, 112401-1-112401-5, 12 Oct. 2017, Peer-reviwed, We have developed an optical frequency synthesizer for the precision spectroscopy of highly excited Rydberg states of Rb atoms. This synthesizer can generate a widely tunable 480 nm laser light with an optical power of 150 mW and an absolute frequency uncertainty of less than 100 kHz using a high-repetition-rate (325 MHz) Er fiber-based optical frequency comb and a tunable frequency-doubled diode laser at 960 nm. We demonstrate the precision two-photon spectroscopy of the Rydberg states of 87Rb atoms by observing the electromagnetically induced transparency in a vapor cell, and measure the absolute transition frequencies of 87Rb to nD (n = 53–92) and nS (n = 60–90) Rydberg states with an uncertainty of less than 250 kHz. It is the first direct frequency measurements of these transitions using an optical frequency comb.

Meeting Abstracts of the Physical Society of Japan, The Physical Society of Japan, 71, 576-576, 2016,我々は、レーザー冷却の研究で用いるために可視から近赤外領域までの広帯域な光周波数基準光源の開発を行っている。この周波数基準光源はErファイバー光周波数コムを利用して実現をする。実用的な基準光源の一例として、初めに単一^87^Rb原子を用いた量子情報処理の研究のためのリドベルグ状態励起用基準光源の開発を行っている。本発表では、装置の評価のために^87^Rbリドベルグ状態の絶対周波数測定を行い、先行研究の結果と比較を行う。

レーザー研究, The Laser Society of Japan, 27, 7, 84-88, Jul. 1999, Peer-reviwed, A high-power and highly-frequency-stabilized laser has been developed for the laser interferometric gravitational wave detector. Requirements of the light source for this are a single transverseand longitudinal mode with the power and frequency noise of 10W and 10-6Hz√Hz at 300 Hz, respectively. The frequency of a LD-pumped injection-locked Nd: YAG laser was stabilized to a high finesse Fabry-Perot optical resonator that was isolated from seismic and acoustic noise, which was achieved by controlling master laser light. We evaluated the mechanical and thermal stability of Fabry-Perot cavities of both rigid spacer type and the independently suspended mirrors type. Finally we have achieved the absolute frequency noise of2×10-2Hz/√ Hz for an injection-locked high-power laser with the output power of 9.8 W.

Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, The University of Electro-Communications, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B), 本研究はリュードベリ原子を用いた量子シミュレーターを基にアナログ量子計算を行うためのプログラマブルな量子シミュレーターを開発することが目的である。令和3年度においては、今まで開発した量子シミュレーターにおいて問題となっていたトラップアレー中の原子欠損による原子数の制限を解決するため、トラップアレー中の原子を並び替えることにより数10個の無欠損の原子アレーを実現する方法の開発を行った。これには令和2年度に導入した空間位相変調器を用いてトラップアレーの空間配置を高速に変化させて複数の原子を並び替える方法を検討した。並び替え回数および手順を少なくして最適化するためのアルゴリズムを考案し、この手順による無欠損原子アレーの生成効率の評価を行った。この結果、5×5=25個の正方格子型の原子アレーの場合には約5.7%の効率で無欠損アレーが実現可能であることが分かり、考案した方法が十分有効であることが明らかになった。また考案した原子の並び替えの方法を実験で検証するため、以前に開発したマイクロ光トラップの実験装置の改造および整備を行って実験の準備を進めた。この装置を用いて磁気光学トラップによって生成されるレーザー冷却Rb原子が空間位相変調器によって作られる10個以上のトラップアレーにトラップされることを実験で確認した。, 20H01836

Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, The University of Electro-Communications, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), Techniques are now available for manipulating the wave packet of ultracold atoms by first trapping them in an optical lattice which is formed by counter-propagating laser beams, and then by modulating the laser amplitude. In this study, we investigated the experimental method to selectively excite an atom to a specific excited-band by stochastic amplitude modulation, and found the shortest pulse sequence that forms a target state with almost 100% certainty. Regarding the formation of quantum entangled states of atoms, a convolutional neural-network employed in machine learning was applied to the calculation of the density matrix for the Bose-Hubbard model, and an excellent example of finite-temperature density-matrix calculation was demonstrated. A detailed comparison with the experiments carried out at University of Hamburg showed that attenuation of the hole state in the experiment occurs more rapidly than in the numerical calculation. We found that in a completely isolated lattice system, the hole dynamics has a very long coherence time. On the experimental side, we aimed to realize the quantum simulation of quantum many-body system using laser-cooled Rb atoms in a micro-light-trap array. We can create a quantum entanglement state involving at most 4 atoms, and we are close to realizing quantum simulation of a quantum-spin system., 26400416

(1)The development of atom optics components by Shimizu's group, (2)the study of atom chips with Rb BEC by Nakagawa's group, and (3)atom interferometries by Morinaga's group. (1) Various components were demonstrated by using an ultra-cold metastable neon atomic beam. The focusing of an atomic beam with a static electric lens, arbitrary patterning of an atomic beam with a transmission type hologram made of SiN thin film were demonstrated. By depositing electrodes on the hologram of the SiN film we demonstrated real time control of holographic image of atoms. The group also experimentally verified quantum reflection on a solid surface for the first time. Furthermore, they found mat the reflectivity can be improved remarkably by modifying me slid surface. This result was applied to make a reflective type hologram, beam splitter and one dimensional focusing lens. (2) Nakagawa's group developed a rubidium BEC (the third in this country). Loading of atoms from BEC in mind, they constructed an atom chip consisting of miniature wires carrying current to guide and trap atoms. Preliminary experiment of loading laser cooled atoms was verified. The group also worked on a rubidium atom interferometer that is aimed to measure gravity G constant. (3) Morinaga's group studied on a thermal calcium atom interferometer and a laser cooled sodium atom interferometer. With calcium they measured Aharonov-Casher phase shift with an accuracy better than 3%. With sodium they demonstrated time-domain multiple interferometer that had a finesse better than 100., 11216202
1999 - 2002 - Atomic wave controls of laser-cooled ultra cold atoms

Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, Tokyo Institute of Polytechnics, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), The purpose of this research is to investigate fundamental physical processes and experimental techniques for control of quantum-mechanical atomic motion or atomic wave using lasers. Experimentally, I have developed extended-cavity diode laser systems for laser cooling of Rb atoms and also a glass cell ultra-high vacuum system for magnet-optical trap of Rb atoms. Using these apparatus, I have realized the cooling and trapping of about 10^8 Rb atoms with a temperature of about several hundreds of micro Kelvin. Further investigation of cooling these atoms will enable to obtain ultra cold atoms at several micro Kelvin using a help of polarization-gradient cooling. Thus, it will experimentally possible to investigate the observation and control of quantum-mechanical atomic motion in a laser light potential. Theoretically, I have analyzed a fundamental physical process of ultra cold atoms in a periodic potential created by laser standing waves, which is called a recoil-induced resonance scattering, In such a configuration, the intensity or phase of the laser field transmitted to the cold atoms change according to the relative position of the atomic wavepacket to the periodic light potential. Thus, using this method, it is possible to monitor the atomic motion or quantum mechanical atomic state in the light potential in real-time. These theoretical analysis reasonably explains our previous experimental study about recoil-induced resonance using laser cooled Rb atoms. The control of quantum mechanical atomic motion or atomic wave has been also analyzed in the same atom-light configuration and it has been demonstrated by our preliminary experiment. 1996 - 1997 - 可視光レーザーとマイクロ波を結ぶ周波数チューンの開発

日本学術振興会, 科学研究費助成事業, 東京工業大学, 奨励研究(A), 可視から近赤外域のレーザー周波数測定の為の基礎技術の確立が本研究の目的であり,これに対して以下の研究を行った。 ○半導体レーザーのみを用いた周波数チューンによる光とマイクロ波を結ぶ方法を提案し,その予備実験として、657nmのCaの飽和分光を可視半導体レーザーで行い,されに半分の周波数の1315nmの半導体レーザーとの間をSHGでリンクを行った。これによって提案した周波数チューンの一段目が実現できた。 ○1.5μm帯の分子の吸収線の周波数を測定する方法も新たに提案し,これに必要なC_2H_2,HCN分子の飽和吸収に安定化したレーザーを開発し,さらに広帯域に差周波数を測定するために光周波数コム発生器を用いて、各吸収線の間隔をITHzにわたって100KHz以下の精度で測定した。又,絶対周波数を測定するために,0.778μmにあるRbの2光子吸収線と1.556μmのHCNの飽和吸収線との間の周波数リンクを実現し,HCNの吸収線の周波数を200KHz以下(10-9以下)で決定した。, 06750044
1994 - 1994 - ファブリーペロ-(FP)方式干渉計の開発

日本学術振興会, 科学研究費助成事業, 国立天文台, 重点領域研究, 前年度に第一段階のプロトタイプ干渉計運転に成功したことを踏まえて、今年度はレーザー光の周波数安定化とモード選択を行って、干渉計の感度向上を目指すと共に、雑音源の特定と対策を試みた。 1.モードクリーナー:1m離れた2枚の独立に懸架した鏡で構成されるファブリペロ-共振器をレーザー光の周波数基準に周波数安定化を行うと同時に、その透過によってモード選択された光を干渉計の光源として利用し運転した。これにより第一段階の運転で支配的であったレーザー光の周波数雑音を減らして1kHz付近で約2桁の感度向上が達成された。さらに光源のモード選択によって干渉計のコントラストも95%から99%に向上した。 2.雑音源の検討:モードクリーナーにより周波数安定化は安定化回路の誤差信号で見積もると約4桁、20mの1本のファブリーペロ-共振器で評価すると約3桁の改善が見られるが、プロトタイプ干渉計での感度向上は約2桁に留まっている。この原因を検討した結果、モードクリーナと干渉計の間で光路調整に用いている鏡の機械的な振動が光の位相雑音を付加すると同時に光軸ゆらぎを引き起こしている可能性が大きいことが判明した。位相雑音の付加で約1桁の劣化、光軸ゆらぎは干渉計に異相雑音として作用するため、さらに約1桁の劣化をもたらすと推定されている。これへの対策として防振の強化が実施されているところである。 3.連続運転:前年度の世界初の直接干渉方式のプロトタイプ干渉計運転の成功につづいて、独立懸架のモードクリーナーを通した光でプロトタイプ干渉計を運転したのも世界初であるが、このシステムの長期安定動作を確認するために、長期運転を試みた。最長で3時間半の連続運転が達成され、ロックがはずれる原因も推定できた。, 04234108
1991 - 1994 - 半導体レーザーの光位相同期による高コヒーレント・高出力光の発生

日本学術振興会, 科学研究費助成事業, 東京工業大学, 重点領域研究, 昨年度に引き続き半導体レーザーのコヒーレンスおよび出力向上を行うための実験を行った。コヒーレンス向上の関しては周波数安定化に用いる基準共振器の開発を主に行った。反射率99.99%以上のスーパーキャビティー用ミラーを用いてフィネス約20、000で共振線幅数10kHzを得る事ができた。またこれを真空チェンパーの中にワイヤーで釣ることによって防音・防振を行い、基準共振器の安定度向上を行った。また安定化レーザーの周波数安定度の評価およびレーザーの絶対周波数安定化のためにCa原子の超高分解能分光を行うつもりで、これに必要な線幅10kHz以下の657nmレーザー光源を可視半導体レーザーと回折格子による外部共振器を用いて実現した。高出力化に関しては複数のレーザー出力のコヒーレントな足し合わせ(コヒーレント重畳)を行った。出力100mWのAlGaAs高出力半導体レーザーを用い、注入同期によって3台のレーザーの周波数を一致させ、各々の出力の光位相を制御することによって出力の足し合わせを行う事ができた。足し合わせの効率は2台の時には約85%、3台の時には68%が得られた。今後さらにレーザーの数を増やしていく事によって1W近い出力を得る事も可能になる。(中川) 半導体レーザーからの強度スクィーズド光発生の実験を行うつもりでおりその準備を今回行った。AlGaAs半導体レーザーを液体窒素によって約-200℃に冷却することによってしきい値電流を数mA程度まで下げることができた。これによってスクィーズド光発生に必要なしきい値の10倍以上の注入電流が得られる事になり、さらにスクィズド光が発生しているかどうか強度雑音スペクトル測定を行っていくつもりである。(吉田), 04234204
1992 - 1992 - Realization of a highly accurate optical frequency measurement system by novel frequency chain

Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Grant-in-Aid for Developmental Scientific Research (B), By applying a negative electrical feedhack to a multi-quantum well distributed feedback laser at 1.5 um wavelength, its spectral linewidth was reduced to 250 Hz. By using this laser as the master laser for an infection locking system, improvement of coherence and frequency stabilization of a high power laser was realized. An optical frequency comb generator was developed to generate an intermediate frequency signal. That is, modulation sidebands over 4 THz frequency span was realized by modulating the master laser by using an electro-optical modulator installed in a Fabry-Perot cavity. By irradiating a 1.5 um-wavelength semiconductor laser light and 1.0 um-wavelength YAG laser light to a lithium niobate crystal of 310゚C, a sumfrequency signal between these lasers was generated. Its wavelength and power were 0.63 um and 0.7 uW, respectively. An optical phase locking was realized by mixing this signal with a frequency-stabilized Hi-Ne laser light. The phase error variance was reduced to as low as 0.05 radian^2, from which a stable homodyne optical phase socking was confirmed. By the results obtained above, a frequency chain for frequency measurement system was realized between the primary frequency standard using a He-Ne laser and the secondary frequency standard using a narrow-linewidth semiconductor laser of 1.5 um-wavelengh. Furthermore, optical frequency comb generator was developed to connect the secondary frequency standard and the laser under measurement. The accuracy of frequency measurement was estimated to be as high as 1 x 10^<-10>, by which the optical frequency measurement with the highest accuracy was confirmed. As an application of the present optical frequency measurement system, a novel frequency chain for the wavelength of 0.6 - 1.3 um was proposed by using a calcium spectral line at 0.65 um-wavelength as the frequency standard and nine semiconductor lasers as slave oscillator. 1991 - 1992 - Realization of a manipulator by a photon scanning tunneling microscope for a single atom crystal growth

Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Grant-in-Aid for General Scientific Research (B), Theory of a photon scanning tunneling microscope (PSTM) was developed by using the concept of a virtual photon. The result agreed well with the experimental results. Although the conventional theories have relied on the electromagnetic wave analysis being difficult for intuitive understanding, it was confirmed that the present theory could overcome this difficulty. Based on this theory, a manipulator was designed for trapping a freely flying single atom in vacuum by an evanescent light emitted from the top of an optical fiber probe for the PSTM. For this design, depth of trapping potential, optimum radius of curvature of the optical fiber probe, and required wavelength of light for about twenty species of atoms were estimated. A method of sharpening the top of the optical fiber probe was developed by using a selective etching technique. The probe with the cone-angle of 15 degree and the radius of curvature smaller than 2 nm was realized. The deviation of the cone-angle was maintained within 0.5 degree, by which high reproducibility of this method was confirmed. A method of fabricating a small aperture at the top of the metal-coated sharpened optical fiber probe was also developed. The performances of the PSTM system was improved to increase the measurement speed and resolution. The resultant measurement speed was ten times that of the previous system. The resolution was estimated as 2nm, which is about 10 times higher than that of the conventional system, through the measurements of the bacteriophage T4. Momentum exchange between the evanescent light and rubidium atoms were confirmed by measuring the absorption spectral broadening in rubidium under irradiation of evanescent field. The magnitude of this exchange was sufficiently large for a single rubidium atom trapping. A nonlinear optical wavelength conversion system was designed and preliminary experiments were carried out for realizing 200 - 300 nm wavelength coherent light for the present manipulator combining semiconductor lasers and solid-state lasers. 1991 - 1991 - 半導体レ-ザ-の光位相同期による高コヒ-レント・高出力光の発生

日本学術振興会, 科学研究費助成事業, 東京工業大学, 重点領域研究, 本研究では半導体レ-ザ-において周波数の安定化を行ってそのコヒ-レンスを向上し,さらにこれを注入同期や光位相同期によって出力を増幅及びコヒ-レント重量を行って高コヒ-レントかつ高出力光を得る事が目的である。半導体レ-ザ-のコヒ-レンス向上に関しては既に1OHZ以下の線幅が光帰還法及び注入電流制御によって得られている。さらに今回は、従来の方法では取り除けなかったレ-ザ-の強度雑音の影響をFM変調法を用いて充分抑圧する事ができ,7OOHz以下の線幅を得る事ができた。今後さらに制御の最適化や,基準共振器の安定化を行えば,周波数雑音を調論的限界であるショット雑音で決まる値まで抑圧できると考えられ,この時の線幅は1mHz以下が期待される。一方,高出力化に関しては、コヒ-レンスを向上した比較的低出力のマスタ-レ-ザ-を多モ-ド発振する高出力スレ-ブレ-ザ-に注入同期を行ってスレ-ブレ-ザ-の単一モ-ド化及び高コヒ-レント化を行った。この結果、約1mwのマスタ-レ-ザ-注入パワ-に対して40mw以上において注入同期が確認され,スレ-ブレ-ザ-の線幅もマスタ-レ-ザ-とほとんど同じである事が確認された。この為、両レ-ザ-間の光位相同期を行う事ができ,さらに光出力の足し合わせ(コヒ-レント重畳)を行う事ができた。現在のところ足し合わせの効果はまだ必ずしも高くないが,今後モ-ドマッチングの精度を上げる事によって向上できると考えられる。この様に.今年度においては高コヒ-レント化及び高出力化の種々の方法が実験によって原理的に確認する事ができたため今後さらに実験を進めてその性能向上を行う予定である。, 03250205
1991 - 1991 - 有機超薄膜評価用の超解像光走査トンネル顕微鏡の開発と近視野電磁場解析法の確立

日本学術振興会, 科学研究費助成事業, 東京工業大学, 一般研究(B), 近視野での波動光学の解析を行った結果、測定感度、及び横、縦分解能が互いに、相関を持ち、ショット雑音限界では横分解能は10nm、縦分解能は1nmという優れた値が得られることが判明した。これにより近視野電磁場解析の基礎を確立することが出来た。 ファイバ・ピックアップの先鋭化をフッ酸溶液により行う方法を見いだし、先端曲率半径80nm以下のものをつくることが出来た。また、電子ビ-ム蒸着法によりクロム、金薄膜を先端に均一蒸着することができた。微小開口は放電法、衝突法で作成することができ、開口径20nm以下のファイバ・ピックアップの作成法を確立した。 光源としての半導体レ-ザの高コヒ-レント化に成功し、スペクトル線幅7Hz、を得た。また、参照用の共振器の共振周波数を掃引することによりこのレ-ザの波長を精密に5nmの範囲にわたり掃引した。 光走査トンネル顕微鏡のシステムを製作した。分解能を評価するために厚さ15nmのSiO_2薄膜、さらに複眼光メモリ-の表面形状を測定した結果、横分解能20nm以内、縦分解能1nmが得られた。これは有機超薄膜中の微小開口、リン脂質、などの形状測定には十分な性能であり、有機超薄膜評価用の優れたシステムであることを確認した。 さらに高分解能の光走査トンネル顕微鏡を新たに提案した。これは端面に微小開口を持ったファブリ・ペロ-共振器をプロ-ブとし、その共振周波数の微小シフト量を測定する方法を採用している。つまり、これは反射共振型と呼ぶべきものである。これによる横、縦分解能のショット雑音限界はそれぞれ1nm,0.1nm以内であることが判明した。 また、これらのプロ-ブを用い、原子の動きの操作、さらに単原子の結晶成長の可能性を提案した。, 02452084
