thick disk as a patch antenna with a resonant frequency of around 5.0 GHz. The reflection
property S11, electromagnetic fields, current distributions, and far -field of several resonant
modes in the antenna were analyzed using the CST studio suite. We compared the properties in
several resonance modes and selected the TM11 mode, which has the smallest resonator size
and the highest directivity. The antenna was assembled using a GdBCO thick disk, sapphire
substrates, Cu housing, and SMA connector. We measured t he S11 using a vector network
analyzer and pulse tube refrigerator and found that it had a resonant frequency of 4.996 GHz
and a Qu of 405 at the temperature of 48 K. These measured properties were in good agreement
with the simulated results.

waveguide (SIW) resonator loaded with asymmetric E-shaped slot-lines and shows a tri-band band-pass filter (BPF) using the proposed structure.
In the previous literature, various SIW resonators have been proposed to simultaneously solve the problems of large area and high insertion loss.
Although these SIWs have a lower insertion loss than planar-type resonators using a printed circuit board, the size of these structures tends to be larger. A multi-layer SIW resonator loaded with asymmetric E-shaped slot-lines can solve the above problems and realize a tri-band BPF without
increasing the size to realize further miniaturization. The theoretical design method and the structural design are shown. Moreover, the configured structure is fabricated and measured for showing the validity of the design method in this paper.

Journal of Japan Institute of Electronics Packaging, Japan Institute of Electronics Packaging, 23, 6, 533-538, 01 Sep. 2020, This paper first discusses a design for a compact resonator using a Composite Right/Left-Handed Transmission Line (CRLH-TL). Moreover, an All-resonator type diplexer using proposed resonators is designed and fabricated. The measured frequency characteristics for the fabricated diplexer are mostly in agreement with an electromagnetic (EM) simulated one. The size of the measured diplexer is 6.3 mm × 4.35 mm (0.068λg × 0.047λg), which is much smaller than other compact diplexers.

Journal of Japan Institute of Electronics Packaging, Japan Institute of Electronics Packaging, 22, 6, 574-578, 2019, This paper shows a design method for an Antenna-filter using a multi-layered suspended microstrip line (ML-SMSL) structure. The equivalent circuits using J-inverters, which are able to compensate for the elements of unwanted electromagnetic couplings, are introduced when the design parameters for the Antenna-filter with the ML-SMSL structure are calculated. Although the measured reflection characteristics for the fabricated Antenna-filter are a little different from those for the electromagnetic (EM) simulated one, the characteristics of radiation gain for the fabricated Antenna-filter are very close to those for the EM simulated one.

The temperature distributions in steady states and temperature variations in transient states are simulated using the finite element method (FEM). Foster-type equivalent thermal circuits are extracted from the transient thermal responses using the FEM. When the number of RC parallel circuits is larger than the number of layers in the devices, the equivalent thermal circuits enable the simulation in the time domain at switching frequencies on the order of MHz. Thermal simulation using those circuits for a switching operation shows that the temperature variations of the GaN-based microwave and power devices are 16.9°C and 1.7°C, respectively. This is due to the differences in the dissipated power density of the total area of the heat sources.

In this paper, a methodology for dynamic electro-thermal simulation of GaN microwave and power devices is presented, which bases on the extraction of compact thermal models by three-dimensional finite element simulation. The obtained compact thermal model is coupled to an electric compact model, where the temperature dependence of the lumped elements is described analytically. The proposed methodology is applied to the case of GaN HEMTs used in a voltage mode D-class radio frequency amplifier operated in the frequency range from 300 MHz up to 3 GHz. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. A multi-layered MSLR consists of superconducting/insulating/superconducting multi-layered film to improve the power-handling capability of the superconducting filter. The current flowing along the bottom edges of the multi-layered MSLR was less concentrated than that in the conventional MSLR. A 3-pole filter using a straight-type MSLR was designed based on the Chebyshev function to have a center frequency of 5 GHz and a bandwidth of 100 MHz. The single-layered and multi-layered MSLR filters were fabricated with the simulated filter design using NbN single-sided 600-nm thick film and NbN/AlN/NbN single-sided 300/20/300-nm multi-layered film on MgO substrates. Both filters showed good frequency responses at 6.8 K. The input-output relations of both filters at 6.8 K were measured. The power-handling capability of the multi-layered MSLR filter was 1.9 dB larger than that of the single-layered MSLR filter. Thus, the multi-layered MSLR helped to improve the power-handling capability of superconducting filters.

We designed a 5-pole filter with 5-GHz center frequency and 100-MHz bandwidth using an electromagnetic field analysis simulator. We proposed the trimming techniques by using a trimming library. A trimming library refers to a collection of calculated data of frequency responses that is assembled in order to compare it with experimental data. We constructed the trimming library using a circuit analysis simulator (S-NAP). First, we designed a conventional pi-type equivalent circuit with optimal band-pass filter (BPF) characteristics. We determined all C and L values to meet the specifications of the filter by using the S-NAP. Next, we calculated the filter characteristics by C values of each resonator. The changes in C were assumed to be 1%. The filter characteristics changed substantially with a 1% reduction in C. We were able to determine the most adjusting points for the trimming rods using the trimming library consisting of S11 properties. These results indicate that our method will be useful for the next generation of software-defined radio (SDR) systems.

We used YBCO films from 100, 200, and 300 nm thick YBCO films deposited on CeO(2)/Al(2)O(3) substrates. The R(s)(int) is means the surface resistance of YBCO film without the dielectric loss of the substrates. The R(s)(int)was obtained from measured surface resistance (R(s)) by using a phenomenological equation. The R(s) was measured using the dielectric resonator method at 21.8 GHz. A dc magnetic field of up to 5.0 T was applied parallel to the c-axis of the superconducting thin films during the R(s) measurements. The R(s)(int) ratio (defined as R(s)(int) (5T)/R(s)(int) (0T)) slightly decreased with the film thickness. These results indicate that the R(s)(int) of HTS films depends on the film thickness in the dc magnetic field and the R(s)(int) in a dc magnetic field may be related to the pinning center in the HTS films.of the YBCO thin films increased when the dc magnetic field was applied. These relations could be explained with the two-fluid model for high-frequency and high-magnetic field limits. The

The measured YBCO films were deposited on CeO(2)-buffered r-cut Al(2)O(3) substrates by the pulsed laser deposition method. The thicknesses of these films were 300, 200, and 100 nm, respectively. The R(s)(int) means the surface resistance of YBCO film removing the loss by the impedance of the substrates. The effective surface resistance (R(s)(eff)) including the impedance of the substrate and the J(c) of each YBCO film were measured using the dielectric resonator method at 21.8 GHz and the inductive method. We calculated R(s)(int) by using phenomenological expressions and the R(s)(eff) value. The R(s)(int) values of each YBCO film were almost the same in the measured temperature region. As a result, we found that R(s)(int) was in inverse proportion to the J(c) of YBCO film thinner than lambda(L). (c) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Several it-shaped waveguides are placed between the resonators, and the bandwidth is tuned in discrete steps by changing the switch states of the waveguides, which changes the coupling coefficient between the resonators. The filter contains 3-pole half-wavelength straight-line resonators and two it-shaped waveguides for bandwidth tuning. It also has several electrical pads distributed around the feed lines for trimming after tuning. The filter was fabricated by depositing YBa2Cu3O7 thin film on an MgO substrate and has a measured center frequency of 5.17 GHz and bandwidth of 220 MHz. Use of the it-shaped waveguides to adjust the coupling coefficients and the electrical pads to adjust the external quality factors resulted in 80-MHz bandwidth tuning without increased insertion loss. We simulated the current distribution in the microstrip line by using electromagnetic field analysis software. The current flowing along the outer edge of the sliced microstrip line was less concentrated than in the conventional microstrip line. The electric test power of the sliced microstrip line filter was larger than that of the conventional filter. The electric proof power of the filter can be estimated from the current flowing along the outer edge of the microstrip line.

PHYSICA C-SUPERCONDUCTIVITY AND ITS APPLICATIONS, ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV, 469, 15-20, 1649-1652, Aug. 2009, Peer-reviwed, We designed a 5-GHz miniaturized 8-pole bandpass filter (BPF) using superconducting microstrip quasi-spiral resonators (QSRs) for international mobile telecommunication (IMT)-advanced receiving applications. We used the QSRs with line width and spacing equal to 10 mu m for further miniaturization. and investigated a relationship between the structure of the QSR and the unloaded quality factor (Q(u)). The Q(u) of the optimized QSR of approximately 25,000 was obtained. It was difficult to design a BPF using miniaturized QSRs with high Q(u) because of strong cross couplings between QSRs. The lambda(g)/8-line inserted, inverters were effective in decreasing the unwanted cross couplings. Using these QSR and the lambda(g)/8-line inserted inverters. 8-pole cascaded quadruplet (CQ) BPF was designed. We found that it was possible to design a miniaturized BPF with high Q(u). To estimate J(c), we patterned the YBCO films using wet etching and measured J(c) in the same vacuum chamber using both methods. The films were cooled by a closed cycle cryocooler. For the inductive method, we measured the temperature dependence of third-harmonic inductance (V(3)/fI(o)) vs. coil current (I(o)/root 2) curves. and theoretical scaling behavior V(3)/omega I(th) = G(I(o)/I(th)) Was observed from 10 to 65 K. The J(c), from the inductive method was calculated by J(c), = (k/d)I(th). The threshold coil current I(th) was determined from the constant-inductance criterion V(3)/fI(o) = 2 mu Omega s, and the coil factor k was determined to have the same J(c) in both methods at 40 K. The J(c) from the transport method was determined from the constant-electric criterion E = 8 mV/m. The j(c)-T resulting from the inductive method was in good agreement with that of the transport method in the temperature range from 10 to 65 K, at which was scaling was observed. The tuning plate has windows through which the dielectric and conducting trimming rods pass. It was designed for a 3-pole filter with 5 GHz center frequency (f(c)) and 100 MHz bandwidth (BW) using a 3-dimensional electromagnetic simulator. The simulation of 500 MHz frequency shift induced by dielectric tuning plate was done and, in addition, by using both kinds of trimming rods an improvement of insertion loss (IL), pass-band ripples reduction and increase of bandwidth was achieved. In the experiment, the positions of the plate and the rods above the filter were adjusted by using high-resolution operating at room temperature step motors. The minimum step of moving the plate and the rods was 0.001 mm. We found that the f(c) was shifted by 500 MHz while retaining the IL, pass-band ripple, and BW by experimental evaluation. The time taken by the 500 MHz tuning was less than 1 second. These results indicate that our method and system will be useful for the next generation of wireless communication systems.

A 3-pole BPF was designed using a Chebyshev function with three pairs of the bulk ring resonators and the dielectric trimming rods with the same dimensions. Using this design, we simulated the frequency responses of the filter with low loss and passband ripple, and by adjusting positions of trimming rods a fine tuning of the filter responses was achieved. The BPF was fabricated using ring resonators made from a DyBa(2)Cu(3)O(y) superconducting bulk and a pair of Al(2)O(3) substrates in a Cu cavity with trimming mechanisms using dielectric rods. The filtering property with low insertion loss was clearly observed at 25 K. Power-handling capability of the 3-pole BPF of over 10 W (40 dBm) was observed.

It has been put to practical use in a number of applications. However in order to expand its range of application, a tuning, technique that can restore the filter characteristics is needed. We propose an automatic tuning system using a trimming library and checked the feasibility of the system by lulling a forward-coupled filter with three resonators. The results show that the trimming library method is an effective way of automatically improving the filter characteristics.

We demonstrate a simple tuning method that enables a similar to 500 MHz (similar to 10%) shift of the center frequency of a three-pole microstrip filter with a small change in the bandwidth (similar to 7%). Two dielectric plates placed above the filter structure were used for this purpose, with the dielectric constants of the two plates being 24 and 45, respectively. Simulated results obtained by using a full-wave electromagnetic analysis appeared to agree well with the measured values.

The frequency performance of 8-pole BPF was degraded because many unwanted cross couplings were generated. Many unwanted cross couplings were decreased using line inverters for improving frequency performances. It was possible to design 4-pole QSR BPF with Cascaded Quadruplet (CQ) by decreasing unwanted cross couplings using line inverters. The 8-pole QSR BPF with two CQ structures was designed and fabricated using NbN thin film. It is good agreement with simulated one.

Electromagnetic simulations indicated that the current concentration along the outer edges of a sliced microstrip line was lower than that of a conventional microstrip line. We fabricated a 3-pole filter with a sliced microstrip line resonator using HTS YBCO thin films and measured the IMD3. Until the input power increase to 7 W, the filter proper operation from 50 to 77.3 K. The third-order intercept point value of 64 dBm was observed has p The Delta IMD3 was less than -55 dBc at 1 W input power when the temperature was 50-77.3 K. at 70 K. The sliced microstrip line indicated low Delta IMD3 to the fundamental two-tone sinusoidal waves, which had a difference of 1 MHz, when the input power was 1 W. 8TH EUROPEAN CONFERENCE ON APPLIED SUPERCONDUCTIVITY (EUCAS'07), IOP PUBLISHING LTD, 97, 012228(6pp), 2008, Peer-reviwed, We designed transmit bandpass filters (BPFs) by using superconducting bulk ring resonators and dielectric trimming rods at a 5.0 GHz center frequency with a 100 MHz bandwidth. The filter with ring resonators was smaller than the filter with disk resonators, where the size was defined as the distance between the input/output ports. We found that the size contributes significantly to the miniaturization of multi-pole filters. A trimming mechanism was also evaluated. The frequency shift region of a single ring resonator reached more than 500 MHz after we moved a dielectric rod whose dielectric constant was 39 into the ring resonator. A 3-pole strip-line BPF was also designed using a Chebyshev function by using three pairs of ring resonators and dielectric trimming rods with the same dimensions and by adjusting the positions of the trimming rods. We obtained the optimal frequency response with a low loss and passband ripple for this BPF.

We developed a new microstrip line consisting of many parallel pieces separated by gaps. Electromagnetic simulations indicated that the current concentration of the outer edge of the sliced microstrip line was lower than that of a conventional microstrip line. We made a 3-pole filter of YBCO thin film using a sliced microstrip line and measured its power handling capability. The power handling capability was better than that of a conventional filter. We also examined other resonator structures to increase the power handling capability, for example, an S-type structure and a wide hair-pin structure. These resonator shapes had better power handling characteristics than a conventional microstrip resonator.

PHYSICA C-SUPERCONDUCTIVITY AND ITS APPLICATIONS, ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV, 463, 1, 1064-1067, Oct. 2007, Peer-reviwed, We designed and fabricated a transmit band pass filter (BPF) using circle-type high temperature superconductor (HTS) bulk resonators. A Dy-Ba-Cu-O bulk was fabricated using a modified quench and melt growth (QMG) process and cut into specimens of 8.40 and 8.44 mm in diameter and 0.5 mm thick for use as the HTS bulk resonators. A three-pole stripline (SL) BPF was designed based on a Chebyshev function and the frequency response and electromagnetic field of the filter were simulated using a three-dimensional electromagnetic field simulator. From the results of the simulation, the center frequency, bandwidth, insertion loss, and ripple of the designed filter were 4.97 GHz, 100 MHz, 0.03 dB, and 0.048 dB, respectively. In the experimental results on the actual fabricated filter, the filtering response was clearly observed; however, the center frequency of 5.46 GHz was higher than that of the simulation. The simulated maximum surface current in the resonators of the SL filter was approximately 86% smaller than that of a conventional hairpin filter. Furthermore, the measured response of the Dy-Ba-Cu-O bulk filter at an input power of 20 dBm was almost the same as that at 0 dBm. These results mean that an SL filter using a Dy-Ba-Cu-O bulk resonator may be practicable as a high-power transmit BPF. (C) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The filter has been fabricated using a single-sided MgB2 superconducting thin film deposited by thermal co-evaporation technique. The measured performance of the BPF has been found to show close agreement with the simulated one.

The frequency response and electromagnetic field were calculated using a three-dimensional simulator. The TM11 mode of the resonator was used because it had the smallest diameter. Using stripline (SL) resonators enhanced both the unloaded quality factor and the coupling between the input/output ports and resonators. The frequency response of the designed SL 3-pole Chebyshev filter meets the requirements of IMT-Advanced applications. Additionally, the maximum surface current of the HTS bulk filter was approximately 86% less than that of a conventional hairpin filter.

We measured the resonance frequency of the hairpin resonator in the filter, and examined the difference between the simulated and measured values. When the measured resonance frequency was lower than the simulated frequency, we used a nickel trimmer to increase the resonance frequency, and when high, a sapphire trimmer to decrease the frequency. Our results showed that the use of sapphire and nickel rod trimmers is effective in improving the frequency response of HTS bandpass filters.

We proposed to Quasi-spiral resonator composed of rewound-type spiral resonator and c-type spiral resonators and designed 4-pole filters with it. The filter was designed to have center frequency of 5 GHz, bandwidth of 100MHz, passband ripple of 0.1 dB, maximum return loss of -20.2 dB and fabricated using a single-sided YBCO film by sputtering method and a single-sided MgB_2 film by thermal co-evaporation method.

The Bandwidth of the SDR reaches 10MHz to 1 GHz, which means one SDR receiver should deal with about 100 times of a tuning ratio of a center frequency.
The best performance of the present tunable bandpass filter (BPF) by our investigation has the tuning ratio of the center frequency is about 10 times.
It is not able to fully cover the bandwidth of SDR.
Therefore, this paper proposes a new tunable BPF with a high tuning ratio of the center frequency.
Moreover, the design and the proposal validities of the tunable BPF are shown by fabricating it.
And, the usefulness of the fabricated tunable BPF is shown by demonstrating the receiving experiments which are done by connecting it to a dongle type SDR receiver., Domestic conference

日本学術振興会, 科学研究費助成事業, 山形大学, 若手研究(B), Principal investigator, 本研究の目的は10mm角基板内に8段Quasi-spiral共振器(QSR)小型フィルタの設計・試作、及び小型多チャンネルフィルタの設計と最適化を行うことである。全共振器間の電磁界結合をマトリクス化したフィルタトポロジーに対応する周波数特性を計算するソフトウエア(CoupleFil)と準3次元電磁界シミュレータ(Sonnet)を用いて設計を行った。8段QSRフィルタを設計する上で、フィルタの周波数特性を劣化させる不要な電磁界結合が問題となっていた。フィルタトポロジーと電磁界シミュレータを用いた設計法により、フィルタの周波数特性を劣化させる不要な電磁界結合を判別することが可能となった。また、λg/8長のマイクロストリップ線路を用いて共振器を結合させることで不要な電磁界結合を無視できるほど小さくすることを可能とし、8段QSRフィルタが設計可能となった。設計したパターンをエピタキシャルNbN薄膜上に試作し、4K冷凍機及びベクトルネットワークアナライザにより測定を行った.結果として、設計結果とほぼ一致する結果が得られた。多チャンネルフィルタに関しては、今回は4チャンネルの異なる周波数帯で動作するパターンの設計を行った。それぞれのフィルタでの電磁界結合が設計値と異なるため、バンドパス特性が得られなかった。入出力給電線構造と、フィルタと給電線間の距離を電磁界シミュレータにより調節することで、それぞれのフィルタがバンドパス特性を示した。, 21760247
