This paper newly attempt to propose a concurrent design method for a multi-objective satisfactory design method, Preference Set-Based Design (PSD), to a transmission line (TL) with impedance resonators for realizing negative group delay and slope characteristics. The TL is consisted of four different resonators with different resonant frequency. The design parameters of the TL are obtained in ranges by PSD. The validity of the design parameters is demonstrated by numerical modeling.

IEEE International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2016-, 46-50, 19 Sep. 2016, Peer-reviwed, It is notable that the air discharge method specified in the International Eelectrotechnical Commission (IEC) standard provides unstable testing reproducibility. In this paper, to achieve stable testing reproducibility, we proposed an alternative air discharge test method using an electrostatic discharge (ESD) generator in contact discharge mode. Measurements of air discharge currents through a fixed gap to sphere or conical electrodes in view of various metal curvatures inside equipment covered with a non-conductive case were conducted with respect to different gap lengths from 1 mm to 6 mm, and their current peaks and rise time were investigated in conjunction with the statistical variations. Comparison with air discharge current waveforms was also made to reveal better testing repeatability for the proposed method.

Furthermore, the difference between the susceptibility of transmission line exposed to the plane-EM field and that under the BCI test is shown as an example.

We have discussed the utility when applying the PSD method to solve various electrical and electronics problems. In this study, the layout design problem for microstrip line (MSL) placed on a board edge to satisfy required performances is investigated. When applying the PSD method to the problem, a meta-modeling with a response surface methodology (RSM) to determine RLGC parameters of the MSL is proposed, and then the validity is discussed.

2016 ASIA-PACIFIC INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY (APEMC), IEEE, TH-AM-II-SS14-5, (#1570239959), 683-686, 2016, Peer-reviwed, In this work, based on the mode decomposition technique and the far-field Green's function, an analytical solution of the radiated electric field from coupled traces is formulated by taking both the common and differential-mode currents into consideration. The analytical solution of the radiated electric field is further used to predict the EMI from differential microstrip pairs with time-domain input signals having different slew rates and different amount of skew. From the results, it is possible to quantify the relative impact of these two sources of imbalance on EMI.

International conference proceedings, English - Characteristics of Discharge Currents Measured through Body-Attached Metal for Modeling ESD from Wearable Electronic Devices

IEICE TRANSACTIONS ON COMMUNICATIONS, IEICE-INST ELECTRONICS INFORMATION COMMUNICATIONS ENG, E99B, 1, 186-191, Jan. 2016, Peer-reviwed, To investigate electrostatic discharge (ESD) immunity testing for wearable electronic devices, the worst scenario i.e., an ESD event occurs when the body-mounted device approaches a grounded conductor is focused in this paper. Discharge currents caused by air discharges from a charged human through a hand-held metal bar or through a semi-sphere metal attached to the head, arm or waist in lieu of actual wearable devices are measured. As a result, it is found that at a human charge voltage of 1 kV, the peak current from the semi-sphere metal is large in order of the attachment of the waist (15.4A), arm (12.8A) and head (12.2A), whereas the peak current (10.0A) from the hand-held metal bar is the smallest. It is also found that the discharge currents through the semi-sphere metals decrease to zero at around 50 ns regardless of the attachment positions, although the current through the hand-held metal bar continues to flow at over 90 ns. These discharge currents are further characterized by the discharge resistance, the charge storage capacitance and the discharge time constant newly derived from the waveform energy, which are validated from the body impedance measured through the hand-held and body-mounted metals. The above finding suggests that ESD immunity test methods for wearable devices require test specifications entirely different from the conventional ESD immunity testing.
Scientific journal, English - Enhancement Phenomena and Mechanism Elucidation from Equivalent Circuit for Discharge Current through Small Gap in Contact Discharge of Electrostatic Generator

IEEJ Transactions on Fundamentals and Materials, The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan, 136, 6, 341-346, 2016, Peer-reviwed, In electrostatic discharge (ESD) immunity tests specified by the international electrotechnical commission (IEC), it has been learned empirically that a contact discharge test sometimes provides a severe test result even under the same test level. This is said to be due to the existence of small air gaps between an ESD generator and equipment under test. To clarify the phenomena, we previously measured discharge currents through small air gaps from 30 µm to 1000 µm in contact discharges of an ESD generator to an IEC current calibration target, which revealed that multiple current peaks appear depending on the gap length and test voltage as well. It was also demonstrated that the contact discharge current with a small gap provides a faster rise time and larger current peak in comparison with normal contact discharge tests even at the same test voltage. In this study, to explain these findings quantitatively, we proposed a simplified circuit model combined with a spark-resistance formula which allows one to analyze the discharge currents through the above-mentioned air gaps in 8 kV contact discharge tests. As a result, we found that the calculated waveforms in contact discharges with/without a gap fairly agree with the measured results. It was also found that the proposed circuit provides roughly the same dependence of current peaks on a gap length as the measured results.
Scientific journal, Japanese - Application of the preference set-based design method to filter design
Masashi Kawakami; Yoshio Kami; Haruo Ishikawa; Fengchao Xiao
IEEJ Transactions on Fundamentals and Materials, Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan, 136, 10, 621-628, 2016, Peer-reviwed, Electrical design is usually made with the concepts based on the electric circuit theory. Nowadays it needs to consider the electromagnetic (EM) fields generated in devices, components, and equipment to achieve their expected performances and satisfy the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) regulations as well. In such kind of design, it is required to pursue a solution which satisfies simultaneously multi-objective performances sometimes including conflicting requirements. In this paper, the application of a multi-objective satisfactory design method to electrical design is discussed. The method, named preference set-based design (PSD), is developed as a concurrent design method in the field of mechanical engineering. As a first application to electric and electronic fields, the method is applied to filter designs and its validity is discussed. Applied filter is an ordinary five-order low-pass filter composed of plural element parameters and objectives or performances of attenuation characteristics. In practical cases, some design uncertainties should be taken into account, for example an unnecessary magnetic fields coupling between inductors. Design solution expressed in terms of point value cannot easily and effectively handle the design uncertainties since there is no theoretical guarantee that the solution converges in such case. Such an uncertainty problem is treated in this study. By using the resultant parameter sets, the attenuation characteristics are analyzed and confirmed whether the required performances are satisfied.
Scientific journal, Japanese - An experimental study of electrostatic discharge immunity testing for wearable devices
Takeshi Ishida; Shuichi Nitta; Fengchao Xiao; Yoshio Kami; Osamu Fujiwara
IEEE International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2015-, 839-842, 10 Sep. 2015, Peer-reviwed, Wearable electronic devices have proliferated in recent years. Since such devices are used by attaching to a human, every time the human is electrically charged or discharged, the electric potential of such a wearable device abruptly changes. Thus the device is exposed in close proximity to the resultant transient electromagnetic fields, which may cause malfunctions in the device. Electrostatic discharge (ESD) immunity test methods that assume this situation are not yet developed in the present international standards. In this study, to investigate such ESD immunity testing, we considered the worst case as an ESD event which occurs when the body-mounted wearable device approaches a grounded conductor. In lieu of actual devices, we measured discharge currents caused by air discharges from a charged human through a hand-held metal bar or through a semi-sphere metal attached to the head, arm or waist. As a result, we found that at a human charge voltage of 1 kV, the peak current from the semi-sphere metal is large in order of the attachment of the waist (15.4 A), arm (12.8 A) and head (12.2 A), whereas the peak current (10.0 A) from the hand-held metal bar is the smallest. It was also found that the discharge currents from the semi-sphere metal decrease at around 50 ns regardless of the attachment positions, however, the current from the handheld metal bar continues to flow at over 90 ns. This suggests that ESD immunity testing for wearable devices needs different specifications of test equipment and test method from the conventional testing.

IEICE Commun. Express, The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers, vol. 4, no. 7, pp. 223-227, Jul. 2015, Peer-reviwed, Bulk current injection (BCI) test is adopted as an immunity testing method for automotive electronic equipment. In this letter, an analytical method for obtaining the terminal output of the transmission line excited by using the BCI probe is proposed. The test setup is analytically solved by using a circuit concept approach because it is considered to be a transmission line externally excited by an electromagnetic field. To confirm the validity of the proposed method, a single-ended transmission line loaded with the BCI probe is considered as an example. The comparison with the analytical solution and our experimental results shows a good agreement.
Scientific journal, English - Generation method and basic properties of rotating FSK-EM field for radiated immunity / susceptibility evaluation of electronic equipment
Kimitoshi Murano; Fengchao Xiao; Majid Tayarani; Yoshio Kami
IEEJ Transactions on Fundamentals and Materials, Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan, 135, 5, 294-295, 01 May 2015, Peer-reviwed, Recently our EM environment is becoming more and more complicated increasingly. To investigate the immunity/susceptibility performance of electronic equipments in such an environment, basic properties of a digitally modulated rotating EM field (rotating DM-EM field) are discussed as an incident EM field on the equipment and a method to generate the rotating DM-EM field is introduced. In this paper, an FSK modulated rotating-EM field (rotating FSK-EM field) is examined as an example and two dimensional rotation of the FSK-EM field at 1 Hz is confirmed by experiment.
Scientific journal, Japanese - A Source Model and Experimental Validation for Electromagnetic Noises from Electrostatic Discharge Generator

IEICE TRANSACTIONS ON COMMUNICATIONS, IEICE-INST ELECTRONICS INFORMATION COMMUNICATIONS ENG, E98B, 2, 317-323, Feb. 2015, Peer-reviwed, Electrostatic discharge (ESD) generators cause electromagnetic (EM) noises not only at ESD tests but also even before and after the tests. This may provide inconsistent test results, but the mechanism has not been well examined. To explain the mechanism qualitatively, we investigated a generation source model of EM noises from an ESD generator in conjunction with the functional control sequences of built-in relay switches and the DC high voltage power supply. To validate this model, we used a magnetic field probe to measure the induced EM noises before, during, and after contact and air discharges in accordance with the corresponding timing of the functional control sequences. As a result, we confirmed that the EM noises are induced when the relay switches operate before and at ESD testing and after ESD tests for both contact and air discharges. In addition, we found that the noise peaks due to contact discharges increase with charge voltages, and the peaks just before and at the testing are relatively larger than the ones after the tests, while the peaks of the induced noises at the air discharge testing do not always increase with charge voltages, but reach a maximum at 3 kV. In addition, the peaks of the induced noises at the air discharge testing become smaller than either the peaks just before the testing and those after the tests at charge voltages above 6 kV. This suggests that the EM noises just before ESD testing and after the test may cause the EUT to malfunction when air discharge tests with charge voltages over 6 kV are conducted. A new control sequence of the built-in relay switch was also proposed for reducing the EM noises after ESD tests, which was validated through noise measurements.

2015 ASIA-PACIFIC INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY (APEMC), IEEE, SS16.4, 708-711, 2015, Peer-reviwed, Nowadays differential traces as interconnects are extensively used since the electromagnetic radiation can be ideally cancelled by the out-of-phase and same amplitude signals on the two tightly coupled differential traces. However, the ability of differential pair in mitigating EM interference (EMI) may be seriously jeopardized by possible unbalance of the excitation, since both the common mode and the differential mode current may introduced to the differential pair. In this work, based on the mode decomposition technique and the far-field Green's function, an analytical solution of the radiated electric field from coupled traces is formulated by taking both the common and differential-mode currents into consideration. Thus the radiated electric field from any arbitrary excitation can be easily calculated. The validity of the analytical formulation is verified by comparing the calculated results with the full-wave simulation results.

2015 ASIA-PACIFIC INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY (APEMC), IEEE, TS19.1, 720-723, 2015, Peer-reviwed, As automotive electronics have increased, models for predicting the transmission characteristics of wiring harnesses, suitable for the automotive EMC tests, are needed. In this paper, the repetitive structures of the cross-sectional shape of the twisted pair cable is focused on. By taking account of RLGC parameters, a theoretical analysis modeling for whole cables, based on multi-conductor transmission line theory, is proposed. Furthermore, the theoretical values are compared with measured values and a full-wave simulator. In case that a twisted pitch, a length of the cable, and a height of reference ground plane are changed, the validity of the proposed model is confirmed.

2015 IEEE INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY (EMC), IEEE, 839-842, 2015, Peer-reviwed, Wearable electronic devices have proliferated in recent years.

2015 IEEE INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY (EMC), IEEE, 1315-1318, 2015, Peer-reviwed, Electrical design is usually made with the concepts based on electric circuit theory. Nowadays it needs to consider the electromagnetic (EM) field generated in devices, components, and equipment to achieve their expected performances and satisfy the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) regulations as well. In such kind of design, EM-fiel simulators are often used to estimate EM-fieIl effects to circuit performances. In this paper, the application of a multi-objective satisfactory design method to electrical design is discussed. The method, named preference set-based design (PSD), is developed as a concurrent design method in a fiel of mechanical engineerings. The PSD method is a sort of synthesis technique to optimize multi purposes concurrently. As a firs model to electric and electronics fields the method is applied to filte designs and its usefulness is discussed. Applied filter are an ordinary f ve-order low-pass filte and an electromagnetic interference (EMI) filte composed of plural element parameters and objectives or performances of attenuation characteristics. In practical cases, some unclear parameters should be taken into account, for example a terminal load in some range, and a coupling coefficien in a common-mode chock for EMI filte. Such an uncertainty problem is treated in this study. By using the resultant parameter sets, the attenuation characteristics are analyzed and confirme whether the performances are satisfie with the required performances.

IEEJ Transactions on Fundamentals and Materials, The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan, 135, 5, 287-293, 2015, Peer-reviwed, In electrostatic discharge (ESD) immunity tests, it has empirically been known that contact discharge currents are enhanced by the existence of small air gaps between an ESD generator and equipment under test; however, its mechanism has not been well examined so far. In this study, to clarify the phenomena, we measured discharge currents through small air gaps from 30 µm to 1 000 µm in contact discharges of an ESD generator to an IEC current calibration target. As a result, we found that multiple current peaks appear depending on the gap length and test voltage as well, which are unlikely to occur in conventional contact discharge tests. It was also found that the contact discharge current with a small gap provides a faster rise time and larger current peak in comparison with normal contact discharge tests even at the same test voltage. A circuit approach was used to qualitatively explain the peculiar finding and revealed that the stray capacitances of the discharge electrode are first charged by a contact discharge test and then the accumulated charges are abruptly discharged due to the spark that occurs across a small gap, which gives faster rise time and larger current peaks.

IEICE TRANSACTIONS ON COMMUNICATIONS, IEICE-INST ELECTRONICS INFORMATION COMMUNICATIONS ENG, E92B, 6, 1953-1959, Jun. 2009, Peer-reviwed, In this paper the time-domain analysis of two parallel traces is investigated. First, the telegrapher's equations for transmission line are applied to the parallel traces on printed circuit board (PCB), and are solved by using the mode decomposition technique. The time-domain solutions are then obtained by using the inverse Laplace transform. Although the Fourier-transform technique is also applicable for this problem, the solution is given numerically. Contrarily, the inverse Laplace transform successfully leads to an analytical expression for the transmission characteristics. The analytical expression is represented by series, which clearly explains the coupling mechanism. The analytical expression for the fundamental section of a meander delay line is investigated in detail. The analytical solution is validated by measurements, and the characteristics of the distortions in the output waveforms of meander delay lines due to the crosstalk are also investigated.

2009 20TH INTERNATIONAL ZURICH SYMPOSIUM ON ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY, IEEE, 73-+, 2009, Peer-reviwed, In Japan, a power-line communication (PLC) is in use as an indoor system in the frequency band of 2 MHz to 30 MHz. However, the radiated emission in this frequency band, which is caused by the common-mode current generated in the power-line systems, is a serious matter. To analyze the high-frequency behavior of the line system, a two-port-network model using differential- and common-mode ports is proposed here. As an example, the network-function expression is effectively used to analyze characteristics such as longitudinal conversion loss (LCL), induced common-mode currents in a power line having a load circuit, and an impedance stabilization network 1 (ISN1) attached to a PLC modem.

2008 INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY (EMC EUROPE), IEEE, 302-307, 2008, Peer-reviwed, In multi-layer circuit boards of modern electronic equipment, signal lines and power distribution traces can be set orthogonally and sandwiched between two reference layers. To evaluate interference between such a intersecting strip line geometry, a lumped mutual capacitance model is proposed. Determining the scalar potential due to an assumed line charge at the intersection of the orthogonal traces leads to the distributed mutual capacitance between two lines. The results show that for typical printed circuit board geometries, the mutual capacitance can be approximated as a lumped element at the intersection of the two orthogonal strip line geometries. The proposed model is verified by comparing experimental and the computed results.

The crosstalk from the single-ended trace to the differential pair is estimated at shunt-arm resistors in T or H termination networks. The analysis is conducted by incorporating the termination conditions with the solution of the telegrapher's equations. The time-domain characteristics of the crosstalk are obtained by using the fast inverse Laplace transform. The measurements are conducted easily by using a single-ended digital oscilloscope since the crosstalk is evaluated on the shunt-arm resistors. Both the calculated and measured results are presented, and the characteristics of the crosstalk are also investigated qualitatively.

IEICE TRANSACTIONS ON COMMUNICATIONS, IEICE-INST ELECTRONICS INFORMATION COMMUNICATIONS ENG, E90B, 6, 1313-1321, Jun. 2007, Peer-reviwed, We propose a method of crosstalk analysis for two bent transmission lines with vias at both ends on a PCB using a circuit-concept approach in the quasi-static condition. In this condition, the electromagnetic fields can be approximately estimated by the quasi-static terms of the accurate Green's function in an inhomogeneous medium. To verify the proposed approach, we conducted some experiments and compared our approach's results with measured results and a commercial electromagnetic solver's results.

IEICE TRANSACTIONS ON COMMUNICATIONS, IEICE-INST ELECTRONICS INFORMATION COMMUNICATIONS ENG, E90B, 6, 1322-1328, Jun. 2007, Peer-reviwed, A new radio-frequency (RF) radiated immunity/susceptibility test method using four-septum TEM cell is proposed. A rotating-EM field can be generated inside the cell by feeding four-different RF DSB-SC signals to four septa arranged in the cell. Since a polarization plane of the rotating-EM field rotates in a low speed, the immunity/susceptibility test for the EM field with various polarizations can be conducted more easily. In this paper, a technique for generating the rotating-EM field in the cell is investigated. The basic characteristics of the cell and the rotating-EM field by using the technique are clarified. To verify the validity of this test method, a RF radiated susceptibility of a printed Circuit board is measured. The measured results are verified by comparing with the theoretical results based on modified telegrapher's equations.

IEICE TRANSACTIONS ON COMMUNICATIONS, IEICE-INST ELECTRONICS INFORMATION COMMUNICATIONS ENG, E90B, 2, 323-330, Feb. 2007, Peer-reviwed, The crosstalk phenomenon, wich occurs between transmission lines, is caused by electromagnetic fields of currents flowing through the lines. Crosstalk between two bent lines is studied by using a set of solutions of modified telegrapher's equations. By expressing electromagnetic fields in terms of voltages and currents in the line ends, the resultant network function in the form of an ABCD matrix is obtained. Electromagnetic fields caused by currents flowing in risers at transmission line ends are taken into account in addition to those fields in line sections. The validity of the proposed approach was confirmed by comparing experimental results with computed results and those simulated by a commercial electromagnetic solver for some bent-line models.

PIERS 2007 BEIJING: PROGRESS IN ELECTROMAGNETICS RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM, PTS I AND II, PROCEEDINGS, ELECTROMAGNETICS ACAD, 1667-+, 2007, Peer-reviwed, The crosstalk between single-ended and differential lines is investigated in this paper. First, the telegraphers equations for multiconductor line are applied. Then the differential pair is terminated respectively with T and II termination networks, and the crosstalk from the single-ended trace to the differential pair is evaluated at the grounded resistors in the T or II termination networks. The analysis of the crosstalk is obtained by incorporating the termination network with the solution of the telegraphers equations that are solved by using a mode decomposition technique.

2007 IEEE INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY: WORKSHOP AND TUTORIAL NOTES, VOLS 1-3, IEEE, 719-+, 2007, Peer-reviwed, A four-septum TEM cell has been proposed as a new radiated radio-frequency immunity/susceptibility test device. The cell provides electromagnetic fields rotating at a very low rate by generating a two sets of balanced-mode fields orthogonally. In this paper, a test method using the cell is clarified, and susceptibility characteristics of two types of microstripline models are investigated to verify the effectiveness of the cell and a role of dielectric material is made clear. In addition, an analysis method of the internal electromagnetic fields, which are different from those used in an ordinary TEM cell, is discussed using a image method.

2007 4TH INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY PROCEEDING: EMC 2007, IEEE, 126-+, 2007, Peer-reviwed, In Japan, a power-line communication (PLC or PLT) system was approved only as an in-house system. One of concerned matters is leakage electromagnetic fields from power lines, which are mainly caused by common-mode currents. The common-mode current should be estimated under a condition of LCL (Longitudinal Conversion Loss) of 16 dB in the Japanese rule. In this paper, the characteristics of LCL are discussed at an input terminal of two-parallel line, which is modeled after a simple inhouse power line, with unbalanced load circuit on a viewpoint of transmission-line theory. By applying an equivalent expression concerning common and differential modes at outlet terminals, the analysis is developed.

While two traces cross the same slot in the ground plane, the crosstalk between them will be of very high level, even if they are far apart. By examining the measured S-pararneter and near-magnetic field, we concluded that the crosstalk is due to magnetic or inductive coupling between the trace and the slot in the ground. We therefore developed an equivalent Circuit model for characterizing the crosstalk. The validity of the equivalent circuit model is verified by comparison with measurement results. The reduction of crosstalk by stitching the split ground plane with capacitors is discussed on the basis of the developed equivalent circuit model. (c) 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

IEICE TRANSACTIONS ON COMMUNICATIONS, IEICE-INST ELECTRONICS INFORMATION COMMUNICATIONS ENG, E88B, 8, 3133-3139, Aug. 2005, Peer-reviwed, A new generation method of rotating electromagnetic fields (rotating-EM fields) for radio frequency (RF) radiated immunity/susceptibility test and its basic characteristics are described. Two different double-side-band suppressed-carrier (DSB-SC) signals are required for generating the slowly rotating-EM field for the immunity/susceptibility test. These DSB-SC signals are generated by a DSB-SC-signal generator based on the new concept which consists of voltage-variable attenuators, bi-phase switches, a direct-digital synthesizer and a micro processor. Using the DSB-SC-signal generator, the DSB-SC signal of arbitrary RF frequency can be generated more easily than the conventional system. In this paper, the principle of the DSB-SC signal generator and the basic characteristics of the DSB-SC signals generated by the generator are clarified. The measured basic characteristics of the rotating-EM field generated using the new concept are shown and it is confirmed that the field can be applied for the RF immunity/susceptibility test. In addition, the susceptibility test of an equipment under test is made as an example, the validity of our proposed system is established.

IEICE TRANSACTIONS ON COMMUNICATIONS, IEICE-INST ELECTRONICS INFORMATION COMMUNICATIONS ENG, E88B, 8, 3146-3151, Aug. 2005, Peer-reviwed, The four-septum transverse electromagnetic (TEM) cell is like the traditional TEM cell but has four plate-like septa in the internal space. A slowly rotating field can be easily generated in the four-septum TEM cell, thus radiated immunity/susceptibility characteristics of an EUT under arbitrary specific polarizations can be measured without rearranging the test setup. A design approach for the four-septum TEM cell is discussed in this paper. The characteristics of the cell are analyzed based on the telegrapher's equation and decomposition of the transmission mode into four independent modes. Then a design approach is given based on the analytical results. A prototype of the four-septum TEM cell based on the design is constructed and the characteristics of the prototype cell are experimentally evaluated. The validity and effectiveness of the design approach are confirmed.

IEICE TRANSACTIONS ON COMMUNICATIONS, IEICE-INST ELECTRONICS INFORMATION COMMUNICATIONS ENG, E88B, 7, 3028-3035, Jul. 2005, Peer-reviwed, Crosstalk or coupling phenomenon between two parallel conductors with a ground or reference conductor is well known in electromagnetic compatibility and microwave circuit fields. In this paper we consider the characteristics of a long two-conductor line embedded in an inhomogeneous medium while taking account of the difference between two phase constants in independent propagation modes of two parallel lines. The characteristics of near-end and far-end crosstalk and of through-end transmission are discussed for frequencies up to more than the frequency where the line length is 10 times the wavelength. Interesting properties, such as very strong and null crosstalk phenomena that occur at the far end and non-transmission at the through end, appear in the envelope characteristics. The reason for these properties is clarified by making theoretical and experimental investigations.

Low-rate rotation of the field polarization is controlled electrically and continuously in a two-dimensional plane, so that radiated immunity/susceptibility characteristics that are three-dimensionally depicted can be obtained by using a turntable together with this method. IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY, IEEE-INST ELECTRICAL ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS INC, 46, 2, 169-177, May 2004, Peer-reviwed, This paper describes the evaluation of the susceptibility of a cavity with an aperture using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method and experimentally: To reduce the computing time; the FDTD method is used for the radiation from the cavity and the susceptibility is obtained by using the reciprocity theorem. The cavity used here is modeled after a full-tower desktop enclosure with a 3.5-in bay. The susceptibility characteristics are evaluated by measuring outputs of a monopole antenna and transmission lines installed in the cavity. The susceptibility characteristics, using a three-dimensional (3-D) map, are studied from the computed and the measured results by applying slowly rotating electromagnetic fields to the cavity on a turntable. Measured, and modeled results are in good agreement, indicating the merits of the proposed approach for susceptibility/immunity evaluation. Moreover, some discussions are made to check the susceptibility mechanism.

2004 INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY, SYMPOSIUM RECORD 1-3, IEEE, 89-92, 2004, Peer-reviwed, The evaluation method of electromagnetic-shielding capability and three-dimensional susceptibility map for an actual housing of electronic equipment are studied. Although the shielding capability of an enclosure is conventionally evaluated using shielding effectiveness (SE), it is feared that the immunity/susceptibility-weak points of the enclosure are overlooked. In this paper, the susceptibility of an actual personal computer housing as an equipment under test (EUT) is measured using rotating electromagnetic field. Experimental results show that the evaluation using susceptibility is more effective than the conventional SE. In addition, the test method is more effective to specify the immunity/susceptibility-weak points of EUT visually and easily. Furthermore, it is shown that the condition of the incident EM field and the arrangement position of an EM-field sensor seriously affect the susceptibility of the actual housing.

IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON INSTRUMENTATION AND MEASUREMENT, IEEE-INST ELECTRICAL ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS INC, 52, 2, 297-301, Apr. 2003, Peer-reviwed, A new radar system based on a six-port wave-correlator is proposed for measuring the Doppler frequency of a moving object. The six-port wave-correlator is operated as a two-channel wave receiver and the vector relation, both amplitude and phase, between the two input signals is determined directly by measuring the power levels. By using the six-port wave-correlator, no circulator or mixer is needed for the phase measurement. The proposed system has been applied for the measurement of an object moving at a very low velocity. The experiment and simulation results at 10 GRz show that the target velocity around 0.2 mm/s has been successfully inferred, which proved the validity of the proposed scheme.

ASIA-PACIFIC CONFERENCE ON ENVIRONMENTAL ELECTROMAGNETICS, CEEM'2003, PROCEEDINGS, PUBLISHING HOUSE BEIJING UNIV POSTS & TELECOMMUNICATIONS, 99-102, 2003, Peer-reviwed, With respect to the single-ended trace, differential signaling is much advantageous to the signal integrity and common-mode radiation level reduction. However, to guarantee the required signal transmission, the two traces in the differential pair should be perfectly balanced. Edged placement of a differential pair on the PCB causes balance disruption and creates common-mode (CM) currents resulting in an increased electromagnetic interference level. In this work, the CM inductance and radiation from differential traces with edge placement are quantified. The common-mode inductance of edged-placed differential pair on PCB is derived. Then the characteristics of the common-mode inductance of differential pair are studied for different geometries. Finally, the total radiation powers for several geometries due to the edge placement of the differential-pair are measured.

In this paper, as an application of this method, a tower-type personal computer chassis is considered and its three dimensional characteristics is obtained. It should be mentioned that it is very difficult to theoretically evaluate and/or estimate the above characteristics. Therefore, the proposed test method would be expected in a phase of developing products.

2002 IEEE INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY, VOLS 1 AND 2, SYMPOSIUM RECORD, IEEE, 633-638, 2002, Peer-reviwed, In this work, the metal filled via holes are constructed into fences between the non-parallel microstrip lines to control the crosstalk. In practice, coupling between non-parallel traces is common. On the other hand, via holes are easy and inexpensive to build using the current fabrication process for the commonly used PCBs. The effects of the via holes for alleviating the coupling are investigated experimentally and numerically. The crosstalk is controlled by adjusting the position of the via holes, the structure of via fence, and the length of the via fence. Some design guidelines for the proper placement of the via holes are concluded. Experiments are conducted and the calculated results are compared with the measured data.

IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY, IEEE-INST ELECTRICAL ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS INC, 43, 4, 573-578, Nov. 2001, Peer-reviwed, Two approaches, one based on the circuit concept and the other based on the field theory, are used to model the crosstalk between two microstrip lines of finite length and arbitrary orientation. In the circuit-concept modeling, a set of equations for the line voltages and currents has been derived from a modified telegrapher's equation. A four-port network expression is resultantly obtained by solving the equations, thus the crosstalk can be predicted by applying terminal conditions to the network expression. On the other hand, the extended finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method has been used to model the terminal resistors and the feeding resistive voltage source in the crosstalk analysis. Several physical models have been fabricated and experiments were performed. The calculated results are compared to measurements. In our experiment, for microstrip lines of finite length and arbitrary orientation, there are short line-sections or vias at each of the four ports, which should be incorporated into the crosstalk analysis. This effect has been investigated numerically and experimentally.

2001 IEEE EMC INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM, VOLS 1 AND 2, IEEE, 210-215, 2001, Peer-reviwed, Transient responses of externally excited nonuniform and uniform transmission lines are investigated. The excited field is generated by a monopole antenna installed in the vicinity of the transmission line and driven by a step waveform. The numerical method employed is based on the finite-difference time-domain method, which can easily derive the transient response at the ends of the transmission line and the transient field distribution as well. Thus the coupling mechanism between the antenna and the transmission line is clarified based on the transient fields results. Experiments are conducted and the calculated results are compared with the measured data.

IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON MAGNETICS, IEEE-INST ELECTRICAL ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS INC, 36, 4, 884-887, Jul. 2000, Peer-reviwed, Open-region problems of scattering by conducting cylinders are solved employing finite element method (FEM). The radiation condition for the open-region problem is enforced by the field integral equation solution approach using Green's function through an iterative procedure. At each iteration cycle, the induced currents on the scatterer are evaluated and their scattered fields at the terminating surface are calculated by the held integral equation. Using this iterative procedure, the computational domain can be terminated very closely to the scatterer, yet keeping the sparseness of the FEM matrices. This iterative method is applied for several TE scattering problems of conducting cylinders. The numerical results are presented and compared dth the results of other methods to illustrate the applicability and accuracy of this method.

IEICE TRANSACTIONS ON ELECTRONICS, IEICE-INST ELECTRONICS INFORMATION COMMUNICATIONS ENG, E81C, 12, 1784-1792, Dec. 1998, Peer-reviwed, Retrieving the unknown parameters of scattering objects from measured field data is the subject of microwave imaging. This is naturally and usually posed as an optimization problem. In this paper, micro genetic algorithm [1] coupled with deterministic method is applied to the shape reconstruction of perfectly conducting cylinders. The combined approach, with a very small population like the micro genetic algorithm performs much better than the conventional large population genetic algorithms (GA's) in reaching the optimal region. In addition, we propose a criterion for switching the micro GA to the deterministic optimizer. The micro GA is utilized to effectively locate the vicinity of the global optimum, while the deterministic optimizer is employed to efficiently reach the optimum after inside this region. Therefore, the combined approach converges to the optimum much faster than the micro GA. The proposed approach is first tested by a function optimization problem, then applied tb reconstruct perfectly conducting cylinders from both synthetic data and real data. Impressive and satisfactory results are obtained for both cases, which demonstrate the validity and effectiveness of the proposed approach.

IEICE TRANSACTIONS ON ELECTRONICS, IEICE-INST ELECTRONICS INFORMATION COMMUNICATIONS ENG, E81C, 10, 1648-1654, Oct. 1998, Peer-reviwed, An efficient finite element-integral equation method is presented for calculating scattered fields from conducting objects. By combining the integral equation solution with the finite element method, this formulation allows a finite element computational domain terminated very closely to the scatterer and thus results in the decrease of the resultant matrix size. Furthermore, we employ a new integral approach to establish the boundary condition on the finite element terminating surface. The expansion of the fields on the integration contour is not related to the fields on the terminating surface, hence we obtain an explicit expression of the boundary condition on the terminating surface. Using this explicit boundary condition with the finite element solution, our method substantially improves the computational efficiency and relaxes the computer memory requirements. Only one matrix inversion is needed through our formulation and the generation and storing of a full matrix is not necessary as compared with the conventional hybrid finite element methods. The validity and accuracy of the formulation are checked by some numerical solutions of scattering from two-dimensional metallic cylinders, which are compared with the results of other methods and/or measured data.

IEICE TRANSACTIONS ON ELECTRONICS, IEICE-INST ELECTRONICS INFORMATION COMMUNICATIONS ENG, E81C, 6, 934-940, Jun. 1998, Peer-reviwed, The increasing activity at millimeter wave frequency band and the growing demand for waveguide components to be applied for integrated circuit purpose have promoted the need for applying the field-theory-based approaches to the design procedure. In this paper, genetic algorithms (GA's) are applied to accurately design the iris-coupled waveguide filters based on network-boundary element method (NBEM). GA's model the natural selection and evolve towards the global optimum, thus avoid being trapped in local minima. Network-boundary element method, which combines boundary element method with network analysis method, derives the network parameters of the guided wave structures with less storage location and central processing: unit time. Therefore, NBEM is a feasible and efficient field-theory-based approach for the GA optimization of waveguide filters. With NBEM performing the task of evaluating the performance of the filter designs optimized by the GA, rigorous and optimal designs of the waveguide filters are realized. The obtained analysis and optimization results are compared to a number of reference solutions to demonstrate the validity and accuracy of the proposed approach.

In this report, we estimate electromagnetic field by using Plane Wave Spectrum method. In PWS method, any electromagnetic waves is decomposed into the sum of plane waves, which can theoretically be used to analyze the other electromagnetic field components from 2D near magnetic field. Therefore, it is possible to analyze the electromagnetic field with less components than other studies. We estimate electromagnetic field from 2D near magnetic field by using PWS method and the results are compared with theoretical values calculated. In the estimations, the calculated or the measured 2D near magnetic field are used. Recently, the PCB with multi-layer substrate (Multi-layer PCB) is extensively used with the trend of small size and high density of the electronic equipment. However, SI/PI problems such as resonances between the power and ground layers in the Multi-layer PCB may occur. In this study, a three-layer board consists of signal-power-ground layers with coupled two lines is considered. An equivalent circuit model is proposed for the coupled lines while considering the effect of the resonance between the power-ground layers. The validity of the equivalent circuit model is checked by comparing the transmission characteristics of differential signaling and single-ended signaling with the full-wave simulations. The transmission characteristics of differential signaling are also examined by changing the coupling degree. It is shown that the equivalent circuit model is valid, and if two lines are tightly coupled, the effect of the resonance to the transmission characteristics is small., The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers, 22 Jan. 2015, IEICE technical report. Recently, the Bulk current injection (BCI) test is conducted to evaluate the immunity of an electronic equipment under an external electromagnetic interference. Conducting the BCI test, an electric current is injected into a transmission line by using a BCI probe. However, the induced current in the transmission line might vary drastically, according to the placement position of the BCI probe. As a result, the immunity of the electronic equipment might be overestimated or underestimated. In this paper, an analytical model of the transmission line which an electric current was injected into by the BCI probe is proposed. In this model, the injected current is expressed by using an equivalent voltage source. The immunity/susceptibility of the transmission line that BCI probe was loaded is measured to check the validity of the analytical model. Moreover, the difference in the immunity/susceptibility characteristics of the transmission line due to the placement position of the BCI probe is examined., The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers, 22 Jan. 2015, IEICE technical report. The UWB filter is necessary and also an important device for ultra-wide band communication, .Targeting at 3 1 to 10.6 GHz pass band, which is the desired microwave band of UWB communication in the United States, the design and fabrication of UWB filters are discussed in this paper, The UWB filters are constructed by combining a band-pass filter with a low-pass filter. The low-pass filter is constructed by microstrip lines and perpendicular slotlines in the ground plane. A method for measuring complex electromagnetic (EM) fields near a circuit board is described. Six-port circuit technology is developed as an alternative way of vector network analyzer (VNA) for estimating the scattering matrix of a device under test (DUT) from measuring powers at four output ports. In this report, the technology is applied to the measurement of EM fields near circuit boards. Two magnetic probes are connected to input ports, where equivalent voltage sources are expressed in phasor due to magnetic fields picked up by the probes. Powers at four output-port loads can be formulated in four unknown terms of magnitudes and phases of the sources, though such equation would fall into an ill-condition problem when solving the unknown terms. To avoid the ill condition, the six-port network with applying some design conditions is proposed. The magnitude ratio and the phase difference between two magnetic fields near a ground slit under a microstrip line are estimated and compared with those directly obtained by a VNA. The results are in a good agreement., The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers, 12 Jul. 2012, IEICE technical report. A bandwidth enhanced method for the measurement of complex electromagnetic (EM) field by using a 6-port network is proposed. The 6-port technique has been developed as an alternative constitution method for the vector network analyzer. It is a technique to estimate the S-parameters of a DUT by measuring powers at output ports of the 6-port network. Authors have applied the 6-port technique to the near field measurement. In particular, we have proposed a new 6-port network, where two voltage sources picked up by two EM probes are estimated in magnitude ratio and phase difference from powers measured at the output ports. In this report, an appropriate network constitution for the near field measurement method is described first. By applying the superheterodyne method to the 6-port network, the bandwidth of the measurement method has been enhanced., The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers, 25 Nov. 2011, IEICE technical report. In this paper, we describe the transmission characteristics of the microstrip line parallel to a ground slit, and discuss the SI (signal integrity) problem due the slit. The propagation mode of the microstrip line used as a signal line is a TEM (transverse electromagnetic) mode. When the slit is evaluate as a slot line, the propagation mode is a quasi-TE (transverse electric) mode. In this case, we should confirm the crosstalk between the microstrip line and the parallel ground slit, though the mechanism of the crosstalk is not clearly understood or expressed in an analytical form. However, we observed the fact that the transmission characterisitcs of the microstrip line is affected by the ground slit. The study was made by discussing the results from experiments and an electromagnetic simulator., The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers, 07 Jul. 2011, IEICE technical report, 111, 131, 13-18, Japanese, 0913-5685, 110008800380, AN10013108 - B-4-57 TRANSMISSION CHARACTERISTICS OF MICROSTRIP LINE PARALLEL TO A GROUND SLIT

When two sets of parallel coupled line in a sufficient distance and perpendicularly intersecting a ground slit, crosstalk between two sets is discussed. An eight-port network expression for the model has been proposed. When one set of coupled line is excited by a perfect differential mode voltage source, crosstalk occurs through the ground slit. Crosstalk components in terms of differential-mode and common-mode voltages and currents at ports are investigated by applying terminal conditions to the proposed network and using a numerical solver. Results of them are in a similar characteristic, so that it could be confirmed that the proposed expression can be useful to estimate such phenomena., The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers, 21 Jan. 2011, IEICE technical report, 110, 402, 97-102, Japanese, 0913-5685, 110008676182, AN10013108 - B-4-32 A PROPOSAL OF COMPLEX EM-FIELD MEASUREMENT METHOD BY USING 6-PORT NETWORK

A radio-frequency (RF) radiated immunity/susceptibility test method using a frequency-modulated rotating-electromagnetic field (rotating FM-EM field) is proposed. By applying the FM-EM field to equipment under test (EUT) in the RF radiated immunity/susceptibility test, the field with time-varying frequency spectra, such as a radiated emissions generated by a spread-spectrum clocking (SSC), can be experimentally simulated. Using the rotating FM-EM field, the detailed immunity/susceptibility characteristics of EUT under the above EM envi-ronment can be easily measured. In this paper, the generation method and the basic characteristic of the rotating FM-EM field are clarified. Moreover, susceptibility of a FM receiver measured by applying the rotating FM-EM field is shown as an example., The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers, 14 Jan. 2010, IEICE technical report, 109, 370, 1-6, Japanese, 0913-5685, 110008000597, AN10013108 - B-4-38 SUSCEPTIBILITY MEASUREMENTS USING RF-PULSED ROTATING-EM FIELDS

Power-line communication (PLC) using an inhouse main-power line needs not to construct a additional new transmission lines. The main lines are for power transmission of a frequency of 50- or 60-Hz, not for high-frequency signal of a short-wave band. The main distribution line is fundamentally constructed from two-conductor line, so that its electromagnetic fields are generated in an open area, which is anxious for EMC problems in PLC. Generally, a theory for a transmission line is based on telegrapher's equations. In this article, in considering the EMC problems in the main distribution, the usage. and application of a network, which has mode-voltage and -current terminals in the expression of impedance/admittance matrix has been proposed, is discussed. Moreover, some techniques based on the traditional transmission-line theory are discussed for some basic problems., The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers, 16 Jan. 2009, IEICE technical report, 108, 401, 29-34, Japanese, 0913-5685, 110007131767, AN10013108 - Basic characteristics of rotating-EM field with RF pulse for radiated immunity/susceptibility test

A new radio-frequency (RF) radiated immunity/susceptibility test method using rotating-electromagnetic (EM) field with RF pulse is proposed. It has been clarified that the detailed immunity/susceptibility characteristics of electronic equipment can be easily obtained by applying the rotating-EM field to the immunity/susceptibility test. By newly applying RF pulse to the conventional method, it is expected that not only the detailed immunity/susceptibility characteristics but also some immunity-weak points of electronic equipment can be clarified. In this paper, the basic characteristics of the rotating-EM field with RF pulse are clarified theoretically and experimentally. Moreover, a measured result of susceptibility characteristics of a cavity with a slit obtained by using the proposed method is shown as an example., The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers, 11 Apr. 2008, IEICE technical report, 107, 456, 37-42, Japanese, 0913-5685, 110006595838, AN10013108 - B-4-14 A NETWORK EXPRESSION FOR ESTIMATING LCL OF POWER-LINE CIRCUIT WITH BRANCH LINE

Crosstalk analysis techniques of two parallel microstrip lines of different width on PCB are studied. Two approaches are discussed to obtain a set of solutions of telegrapher's equations. To obtain the set, a modal analysis technique is applied to the equations for multi-conductor lines. In the technique, it is necessary to determine conversion matrices for independent modes. Here, two approaches are discussed; one is a way from predicted mode-excitation circuits of balanced- and unbalanced-mode circuits, and another from eigenvectors. Comparing the results computed by the both approaches and the measured results leads that the approach using eigenvectors is available not only for symmetrical lines but also for asymmetrical ones, but the approach from the predicted circuits is only for symmetrical line type. To know the asymmetry, current distributions in asymmetric lines of unbalanced-mode excitation are discussed from the post-processed experimental results and the computed results of the eigenvector approach., The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers, 20 Jul. 2006, IEICE technical report, 106, 182, 95-100, Japanese, 0913-5685, 110004833258, AN10013108 - B-4-40 CROSSTALK BETWEEN TRANSMISSION LINES IN MULTILAYER SUBSTRATE

Signal integrity and radiation characteristics of a three-dimensionally bent transmission line such in mother bord-extension board structures are investigated with experimental results and numerical results using FEM. A bent line model with a slit at the bending part of ground is also considered as a near-model-to- actual-one model. Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, The University of Electro-Communications, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C), During the same two fiscal years, 2006 and 2007, both Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research from Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and Grant for Practical Application of University R&D Results under the Matching Fund Method form New Energy and Technology Development Organization (NEDO) were adopted. Then, we have done with drawing a sharp line between these two projects. That is JSPS's research target is “Development of a prototype X-band six-port based VNA for universities student experimental program," as its title of project is “Trial manufacture of a portable X-band six-port based vector network analyzer for two-port device measurement." As excellent results, we published eleven papers including proceedings of international conferences, i. e., “Design of Bandpass Filters for UWB Wireless Systems ; Tenth Australian Symposium on Antennas, Feb.2007," and “Application of Particle Swarm Optimization for the Design of UWB Bandpass Filters ; IEEE International Symposium, June 2007," and “Spurious Emission Measurement with Wide Dynamic Range ; 11th International Symposium on Microwave and Optical Technology, Dec. 2007" and so on. On the other hand, NEDO's research and development target is “Wide application in various fields of high frequency industry using our six-port based measurement techniques." With both results, we are now researching in alternative applications as a frequency free measurement techniques., 18560408
