  • Slot waveguide enhanced asymmetric photonic crystal nanofiber cavity for fiber-coupled single photons

    Applied Physics Letters, AIP Publishing, 124, 3, 034002, 15 Jan. 2024, Peer-reviwed, We report a slot waveguide-enhanced asymmetric photonic crystal optical nanofiber (ONF) cavity to realize cavity quantum electrodynamics. We show that the device can strongly enhance the spontaneous emission of a single quantum emitter leading to a Purcell factor as high as 106 and enables single-photon coupling efficiency as high as 86% into fiber-guided modes. The introduction of the slot enhances the Purcell factor by six times as compared to the ONF cavity structure without slot, and the asymmetric cavity design enables unidirectional coupling of single photons. The cavity is designed to minimize the losses leading to a scattering-limited Q-factor and one-pass loss estimated to be 6388 and 1.2%, respectively. This fiber-coupled single-photon device may open advanced possibilities and applications for quantum information processing.

  • Developing a fiber optical quantum interface using trapped atoms and nanofiber based photonic crystal cavity

    Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, The University of Electro-Communications, Grant-in-Aid for Young Scientists (A), In this project, we have developed an optical tweezer based single atom trap on a photonic crystal (PhC) nanofiber cavity. Fabrication of high quality PhC cavities on nanofibers was demonstrated. The cavities were designed for efficient interfacing of trapped single atoms to nanofiber guided modes. The interference between the cavity modes leading to unique spectral features was investigated. Photo-thermal stabilization of the PhC nanofiber cavities under ultra-high vacuum conditions was achieved. It was demonstrated that single atoms can be successfully trapped on the nanofiber cavity and can be observed in real-time through the fiber guided modes. This enables deterministic preparation of single atom events for quantum photonics applications on an all-fiber platform., 15H05462

  • Manipulation of single atoms/photons using an optical nanofiber wit cavity structure

    Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, The University of Electro-Communications, Grant-in-Aid for Young Scientists (B), One of the key trends of modern quantum optics it to manipulate the quantum optical properties of atoms using various nano-waveguides. In this project, we investigated methods to improve the freedom of the manipulation using optical nanofibers as nano-waveguides. We developed a method to create cavity structure on an optical nanofiber using femto-laser interfered multi-photon fabrication method. Furthermore, we developed a method to create cavity structure on nanofiber by combining with an external nanostructure device (grating with central defect).
