    Tohoku University RIEC, 業績 「超広帯域電波センシングにおける超高精度画像解析法の研究」
    授賞理由 木寺氏は、1/100 波長の超高精度画像化法、多重散乱波を用いた影領域画像化、レーダとトモグラフィの双方向処理による複素誘電率分布推定、等の多くの独創的かつ革新的な画像解析法を構築し、それらをマイクロ波乳癌診断、道路内部非破壊検査、ミリ波による人体識別センサ等の社会的に重要な課題に発展させてこられました。これらは社会的貢献の意義は大きいと判断でき、RIEC Award本賞にふさわしいものと認められました。

    した後、レーダ画像化技術の RPM 法と組み合わせることにより、高い画像分解能を有する 3 次元人体イメージを推定
    できることを述べている。またシミュレーションと模擬的な実験により、提案方式の有効性を検証している。瓦礫に
    埋もれた被災者の発見、自動運転における人物検知などに供する有効な技術のひとつとして、テレコムシステム技術
    賞にふさわしいと高く評価する。

    Funai Foundation for Information Technology, 超広帯域レーダを用いた超分解能・不可視領域立体像再構成法の研究
    木寺氏は、超広帯域電磁波を用いた近距離センシング分野において、全く新しい画像化原理を構築し、再現精度、空間分解能、処理時間において従来性能を超える革新的立体像再構成手法を提案してきた。更に多重散乱波を積極的に用いることで、従来では再現不可能であった領域(影領域)を高精度に推定する独自の手法を提案し、その有効性を実証してきた。卓越した同画像化性能は、国内外の当該分野で注目され、これを基盤とした研究開発が国内外の複数の研究機関で進められている。更に木寺氏は、誘電体内部画像化問題にも本手法の原理を導入し、独自の誘電率推定法を併用することで、超分解能・精度が達成されることを実証している。上記手法は多様な波長帯域に拡張可能であり、災害救助ロボットセンサ、非信襲生体計測及び非破壊計測等の幅広い応用分野で革新的計測技術を創出することが期待されている。

    Super-resolution time of arrival estimation methods have attracted much attention in radar signal processing. Many studies have used compressed sensing (CS)-based approaches to attain the super-resolution property because they assume sparseness of the object temporal distribution. However, this approach still suffer from accuracy degradation when decomposing highly correlated signals in heavily noise-contaminated situations. To resolve this problem, this study introduces an enhanced CS method by exploiting the sparseness of both the time and frequency domains of the target signals. Numerical simulation and comparison with results obtained by conventional methods demonstrate that the proposed method considerably enhances the reconstruction accuracy for multiple highly correlated signals in lower signal-to-noise ratio situations.

    Doppler lidar (LIght Detection And Ranging) can provide accurate wind velocity vector estimates by processing the time delay and Doppler spectrum of received signals. This system is essential for real-time wind monitoring to assist aircraft taking off and landing. Considering the difficulty of calibration and cost, a single Doppler lidar model is more attractive and practical than a multiple lidar model. In general, it is impossible to estimate two or three dimensional wind vectors from a single lidar model without any prior information, because lidar directly observes only a 1-dimensional (radial direction) velocity component of wind. Although the conventional VAD (Velocity Azimuth Display) and VVP (Velocity Volume Processing) methods have been developed for single lidar model, both of them are inaccurate in the presence of local air turbulence. This paper proposes an accurate wind velocity estimation method based on a parametric approach using typical turbulence models such as tornado, micro-burst and gust front. The results from numerical simulation demonstrate that the proposed method remarkably enhances the accuracy for wind velocity estimation in the assumed modeled turbulence cases, compared with that obtained by the VAD or other conventional method.

The acquisition of an accurate three-dimensional image using ultrasound has the potential to be a useful product inspection tool. In this paper we apply the Envelope algorithm, which was originally proposed for accurate UWB (Ultra Wide-Band) radar imaging systems, to ultrasound imaging. We show that the Envelope algorithm results in image deterioration, because it is difficult for ultrasound measurements to achieve high signal to noise (S/N) ratio values as a result of a high level of noise and interference from the environment. To reduce errors, we propose two adaptive smoothing techniques that effectively stabilize the estimated image produced by the Envelope algorithm. An experimental study verifies that the proposed imaging algorithm has accurate 3-D imaging capability with a mean error of 6.1µm, where the transmit center frequency is 2.0MHz and the S/N ratio is 23dB. These results demonstrate the robustness of the proposed imaging algorithm compared with a conventional Envelope algorithm.

Previously, we proposed a high-resolution 3-D imaging algorithm for UWB radar, the Envelope algorithm with adaptive smoothing techniques. The Envelope imaging algorithm utilizes the principle that the target boundary is expressed as an envelope of spheres determined by observed ranges, while the range smoothing techniques stabilize the estimated image produced by the Envelope algorithm by adaptively changing the range smoothing method. Numerical simulations confirm that the maximum error of this algorithm is less than 0.015 center wavelength. In this study, we apply the Envelope algorithm with adaptive smoothing techniques to high resolution 3-D acoustic imaging, which is a promising form of accurate nondestructive testing, and evaluate the performance of this algorithm with experimental data. The results verify that the proposed method achieves high-resolution 3-D acoustic imaging. The mean error of the estimated image is 6.1μm which corresponds to 8.2×10^<-3> center wavelength.
